DCs team (swim, at least) does practice over break, but at a different time and location from regular practices. I don’t know what the divers do. |
I have to amend this. Multiple tech suits at the meet this week from the hosting team. 🙄 |
What team? We have yet to see a tech suit at any of our High School Dual meets. |

New question -- Are regionals scored? So if a kid makes a regional cut and the coach puts them in other events at districts to score points (since Districts matters the most to the team score) the kid can then still swim their regional cut event at Regionals regardless of how Districts shakes out. |
Please say TJ or McLean or Woodson or something. |
Nope. My kid is Woodson and they never have tech suits at dual meets. |
| Does a States swim time need to be achieved at a HS meet or would my daughter’s USA swimming club team times qualify her too? I know swimmers’ USA membership number is linked for non-dual meets. |
It has to be at a HS meet. The number is there to report HS times for sanctioned meets to USA swimming, not to push to the HS 'account' |
Sanctioned meets will be Districts, Regionals, and States. |
+1 And is it true the regional times have to be out before a swimmer can get them? |
Regionals are scored, yes. Generally coaches will take swimmer preference into account, but I don't doubt there's some coach out there who doesn't. If they have the regional cut, they don't have to swim the event at Districts to swim at Regionals, and those cuts are given to coaches before the season starts. |
There was one kid at Yorktown who wore a tech suit. Looked ridiculous, wasn't an exceptionally fast kid/outside lane/not going for record. That's the only one I've seen this season. |
Every region is different and the Athletic Director's in each region are empowered to set their own rules with regards to those meets. Think of the AD’s like the meet director setting the entry rules for a USA swimming meet. The only VHSL rules around State’s and Regional’s that the AD’s must follow exist in the VHSL handbook on VHSL.com. |
What local region is not scoring the Regional meet and handing out a trophy and banner to the winning teams (boys & girls) on Saturday night? |
Most do that. I was trying to explain that there will be different rules for making States, Regionals, and Districts (if there is even districts) depending on what the ADs in that Region have decided. Sometimes swimming a state qualifying time in a dual meet will be certified by the regional host AD, sometimes it won’t, sometimes a district time state time will be certified and sometimes it won’t. And other times the only way to make states from a given region is to place (or have more than 8 people swim a state cut time). If there are districts, sometimes only a swimmer that placed at districts can swim at regionals, other times there will be a regional cut time that will be certified, and sometimes they will even ignore a state cut time swam at a dual meet to get into regionals if there was a district meet. My point was simply that the regional ADs are empowered to run the district and regional meets pretty much however they want with almost no restrictions placed on them by VHSL. |
