Mental health days off in HS?

Agree with PPs that your approach is not helping your DD to build the skills and habits she will need for college and work. So…if you expect that she will never have to hold down a job, go right ahead. Otherwise plan on supporting her for a good long time.

You know you can get the takeout on Tuesday and sleep in on Wednesday, right? Tell her to suck it up and go to school! Just wait until she’s an adult and finds out she has to work on Christmas Eve!

So true! My kid is a freshman and missed one day of 7th grade for a mental health day that he begged for.

I don’t want my kids missing school. They have to be really sick. Once and only once did we take all of Thanksgiving week off. It was my oldest 8th grade year and I figured it was our “last chance” as I think high school is a different story. Gotta show up!

We give our daughter once mental health day a quarter. We don't allow her to miss days for no reason.

Of course she shouldn’t skip a day of high school to sleep in and hang out. If you had a big trip planned, maybe. But kids should not miss a day in high school without a very good reason. And even my middle schooler has tests next week before the break.
