IDK that sounds boring and try hard. The ones that express personality in a unique way are better. |
I strongly suspect yes. Same when a parent says their kids essay made them LOL. |

Mine wrote about how she was an extrovery and loved meeting people and learning more about them. (framed around when she was in elementary school a foreign student joined her class and she was asked to help the new girl, who had limited english, settle in)
I initially thought it wasn't a good topic (I'm firendly! Admit me!), but her counselor told me it was a good topic because schools post covid are filled with kids who don't know how to get off their computer and socialize in real life and they want kids who have social skills). |
From your lips to my kids ED school! |
Found the high school bully who grew up to be an adult bully. |
| My daughter wrote about her love of thrifting and how she chooses different items, and can create something new from something old/used. Then she drew an analogy for how she might use those skills in her future career |
Love this! |
| all 3 of my kids wrote about their academic interest/passion/extracurricular. The more introspective/moment of realization/obstacle thing was rejected by all of them - too "cringe" according to them. |
Sounds like a great topic — showcases some character traits and personality that wouldn’t necessarily be reflected in other parts of the app like grades and scores. That’s exactly what you’re supposed to do. |

My kid wrote about how he’s always loved to think of and build things. How he kept failing at a project he decided to make in his free time at home, but persisted with different iterations over the course of a year until it was successful. Related it to his current work on the school robotics team and how he will use that curiosity, enthusiasm and persistence in the future.
Applying to engineering schools. I thought it captured who he is perfectly. |
My kid wrote about their extracurricular, which sounds like a very boring topic, but it was extremely engaging. |
