If the vegetarian eats cheese and eggs, you can do
I think spanokopita, fried eggplant, vegetable quiches, cheese or potato dumplings, vegetarian lasagna, tofu or cheese in an Indian sauce, a lentil dish (e.g. dal), a beet salad, a bean chili - a lot of filling options that can serve as a "main" for a vegetarian I think, or at least a side that is filling - and many of which you can buy prepackaged. |
Yes did you not read the part where it says mashed potatoes *with gravy on the side*? The vegetarians don't have to eat the gravy, and you can do the mashed potatoes with butter and garlic. It is easy to do Brussel sprouts with a soy and maple glaze, green beans with butter and almonds, pureed butternut squash etc, roasted root vegetables, broccoli slaw, all with vegetarian preparations. We have several vegetarians in our family and they eat well on Thanksgiving. |
No |
If you have several you make a main. They eat, not well. That’s the we stop on the way home hungry meal and dread next year. |
Sorry. This is OP. I meant that they were pescatarian. My bad. They eat fish. |
| OP again. I know this makes me look stupid. The thing is she always calls herself vegetarian and then clarifies - I eat fish I guess I’m pescatarian…. |
| Personally I do not expect someone to have a whole different main. I am totally fine eating sides. My sister in the other hand would be quite concerned about her protein intake (which I think is ridiculous for 1 meal but ...) |
You need to get your title changed to pescatarian. Everything you have posted about your menu is more than reasonable for a PESCATARIAN. (does she eat shellfish) |
Good lord OP. Pescatarians aren't vegetarians. Fish are not vegetables. |

This whole thread is a train wreck, haha. I don’t know what’s going on in it or what the problem is! I’ll say as a vegetarian I love Thanksgiving because the sides are themselves a feast. I wouldn’t require a special “entree” if there are like 6 great vegetarian sides. And even if I did, I’d offer to bring it.
But it sounds like we’re actually talking about a pescatarian and there are actually pescatarian dishes for her? So idk what the issue is. |
That's your opinion, not a fact. --Vegetarian who loves Thanksgiving with a bunch of well-prepared sides. |
Agreed, former vegetarian here and thanksgiving was always great. Even now that I eat some meat, I don’t care for turkey and mostly eat sides anyway |
| I’m a vegetarian and I don’t need a protein at every meal. This era’s obsession with protein is like how everything had to be fat free in the 90s. I still remember the fat free butter. Disgusting. |
Agreed. I eat tofu and bean dishes at home but on a holiday I don't want a host making some weird (for them) recipe just for me. On a holiday, I want pasta. |
