Democrats doing the "right" thing when Republicans don't care is what got us into this mess in the first place. It wasn't that long ago when both sides actually tried to work together.

+100 I don't like it but Democrats need to do the same thing.

Poor analogy. Republicans are trying their damnedest to gouge everyone's eyes out all on their own. We need Democrats to stand up and stop their unamerican nonsense.

So you want to bend over and let the Republicans lie and cheat their way into controlling everything?

I’ll take gerrymandering over losing everything.

Before Trump, I would have agreed with you. But Republicans' dishonest and unethical behavior is why we are here. Mitch McConnell and his Supreme Court hypocrisy. Jan 6 pardons. Trump redistricting outside of the census. And really everything the lawless R's do. VA needs to fight fire with fire. We are taking the "high road" right to authoritarianism.

+1. Only a chump continues to play by the rules when the other side has decided to throw out the rules, cheat, and then leave the competition.

They can pick up five with no problem. California could have picked up 9 seats but went for 5. This is a mistake. Pick up as many seats as you can.

New York needs to get moving also. New York could easily add 7.

The meta problem for all of us is that the posters who say Democrats can't just let Republicans change the rules and keep playing by the old ones are right — and/but that also means everything's only going to keep getting worse. Once we start redistricting the entire House every year or two just to eke out an extra seat here or there to hold the majority, how do you ever stop? What are the other norms (or laws) that Democrats will decide they should discard because Trump has already shattered them?

I don't think there's a better solution, I think it just means we're cooked.

I'm all for VA redrawing the districts.

It would be great if there was a national law against gerrymandering, I would definitely support that. But that's not going to happen.

Between people leaving and deportation, NY and CA will both be lucky to only LOSE 5-7 seats each. Both states are seeing net out-migration in the hundreds of thousands annually, and this was before immigration enforcement began.

Depending on how things go, we might see a reverse in these trends.

Look, I hold 2 degrees in politics/policy. I am not a fan of gerrymandering in general, and would love if nonpartisan districts existed in all states. That is the ideal.

None of the rules apply anymore, though. We are absolutely fighting for the survival of our country right now. As many blue states as possible need to do this to keep Rs from fixing maps to create permanent majority.

People in the country are sadly not taking this threat seriously. Just a day ago, this regime made it clear that they plan to send in the national guard to intimidate blue state voters. And I honestly am not even sure we will be allowed to vote next year-an emergency declaration and martial law is not out of the realm of possibility.

These crazy fascists plan to stay in power. We need to fight with absolutely everything we have. This is just one small part of the battle.

I 100% support this move. So happy our state legislators thought outside the box to work the system in our favor. This feels like we’re fighting back and it is a ray of hope.

Guess you have never looked at the population of Texas or Florida? Texas and Florida have more illegals and immigrants than the rest of the country combined.
Oh California population is growing and people are fleeing Texas. Try to stay current.
