| I live in DC. It’s not safe to let children ride bikes or scooters in heavy traffic area. I think parents are deluding themselves. This week someone whose family is known to us was nearly killed in a scooter accident. It was also an accident. I see bear misses every day. Parents, think twice before letting your kids ride bikes to school. Even walking across busy streets is dicey without a crossing guard. People driving big SUVs to school drop off may not see you or your kid. |
The cameras record all the time. Remember the video of the driver sexually assaulting the young girls with disabilities strapped to their seats? It is all filmed. |
Oh no. That’s awful. So she was on the road? I thought there was a sidewalk there. My heart goes out to everyone involved. |
That camera is inside the bus it’s different. |
She was almost certainly in the cross-walk. |
She wasn’t in the crosswalk. She was next to the bus. Both in the road, going the same way. |
| I’m guessing this is an issue with making sure we come to a complete stop before making a right turn, bike safety rules, and know that big vehicles have less visibility so people need to give them a lot of room. Heartbreaking. |
The road’s not wide enough there for a bike to be side by side a bus. |
Her house was probably in the walker zone. What option would the parents have? |
There is no stop sign there. Unless there was someone in the crosswalk, you cannot come to a complete stop on Bauer Drive when making a right turn. |
So it seems that the bus driver didn’t see her in the side mirror. |

A new 3-way stop has been installed at the intersection of Bauer Drive and Russett Road in Rockville following the tragic death of 11-year-old Summer Lim earlier this month.

It took a death to get fck ing stop signs?! Why isn't mcps evaluating each crosswalk and intersection within student walking zone of each mcps? |
MCPS doesn't control stop signs. |
