This is my hunch as well I think. I’m from NC and UNC didn’t appeal to my high achiever. I view UVA the same, fantastic public but won’t appeal to everyone. I think it gets heat as many on here really pump it up to the extreme.

I don’t think so. I don’t really care where UVA is ranked and my kid chose to go to a different school. I do find the UVA posters on here to be more annoying than others and I have met a few people who actually behave like that in real life

A handful of schools have alumni like this. Other schools like this are Michigan and Penn State.

For sure on Michigan, didn’t know about Penn State. This is actually a positive to UNC for me. The triangle having NC State, UNC and Duke creates a nice spirited vibe but not nearly the degree of pompous. Much more laidback in a good day.

I have no ties to UVA and don’t live in VA, but consider it a top 2 public. The CA schools are hugely overrated. UVA benefits from being half the size.

There are plenty of private schools that are ranked higher than either of those two. Penn State alarm love their school and that is a wonderful thing. I don’t think anyone from Penn State is claiming that it is the most academically challenging school out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great place. Michigan alarm also love their school and it happens to be an academic powerhouse. UVA alarm also our passionate about their school, but there are just a lot fewer of them and this board attracts people who want to be obnoxious because we are based in the DC area.

Not if you're OOS. I'm a UVA alum & live OOS now. There's no way it's worth >90k/yr for most full pay families.
