New school start times survey

In the 1980s maybe? 😂

To summarize things, are we thinking that:
- On boundaries, they're gonna push forward whatever Thru proposes Oct 10, having the community meetings so they can check the box. SB and Reid's office will all blame someone else when people are unhappy.
- On start times, option 2 passes. They claim it's ok bc everyone moves a smidge and buses stay cost neutral.
-On KAA, they stall opening and waste the capacity gain and money spent by entertaining elite options that small interest groups want.
-On all points, we can do nothing bc the county is too huge and those in charge are in way over their heads.

That’s what it sure seems like we are heading - decisions were made year plus ago and now after a lot of money and time they are going with what they wanted all along

Those options were too expensive and required more new buses

Early enough so it wouldn't mean new buses. Why can't that be a scenario?

9-50 also works great with those early release days which I’m sure are going to continue and expand

How about a scenario where FCPS doesn’t disrupt everyone’s schedules

No change isn't an option when they've been talking about this for 15 yrs.

How about a special yearly consulting tax so that they can spend money on all this things under a condition that they do nothing in the end

I'm incensed with the SB for lots related to the boundary review and programming, but making the start times change is in line with their responsibilities.

The beauty of after school activities is that students are already at school prior to the activity and can take advantage of busses home afterwards if they don’t have an adult who’s able to pick them up. Moving activities to the morning eliminates that transportation option and would preclude a large number of students from being able to participate.

+1- also where is the box that says as a parent, I’m concerned my middle school kid will have a bunch of new to middle school teachers if they don’t like the start times. (I don’t blame them!)

Large staff movements could definitely happen- for secondary teachers who live out of county or just far from their schools, pushing the times back 30-60 minutes would wreak havoc on commutes.

You’re missing the option for “Neither” which I would wager is the clear front runner.

Option 2 will not pass due to an almost 10 o clock start time for grades Preschool-6th. People seem to forget many schools have 3-4 year olds in their buildings.

+1 option 2 is the best. Slides everyone by 30 min. Least disruptive.

Clearly not an ES parent.

Saying anything "will not pass" is naive and implies families get to vote. And the world if childcare and work schedules will adjust. Fill out the survey but don't expect to not have to make changes to your work)school week routines. By this time next year everyone will have figured it and and be ok.
