Should schools scrap diversity targets ?

If schools should be race blind, why not be gender blind too? I suspect people will chime in on why these are completely different concepts, when the reality is that having gender blind admissions would disadvantage those posters, so they are against it.

For the record, I would be fine with removing race targets because I think it falsely reassures people that they are in a “diverse” setting when those settings are socioeconomically and ideologically / values-wise not at all diverse. I think it’s fine if people want to be around people pretty much just like them (do what you want with your money and privilege!) but it does annoy me that they pretend to care so much about diversity etc. The vast majority of parents care only about what’s best for their kid, without regard to others/society. I don’t think that’s the case in all countries but it is the case in the US. It’s unfortunate but it is what it is.

I am non-white and I don’t really care about the race in school as long as my kid is treated fairly. I am not sure more racially diverse schools means more fairness. I would rather go to a school for predominantly white people if there is no bullying and the quality of education is good.

Keep elite institutions elite with a sprinkling of high upside charity cases.

Are you seriously suggesting that the application process should include questions about ideology?

No, I don't see how you inferred that based on my mention of ideology. I said that meaningful diversity is not possible in private schools and I think people should be honest about this, rather than telling themselves (and others) that their kids' private schools are diverse.

Agree. It’s a fake diversity.

I think it’s fine. If you don’t like elite schools you can go to public. No problem at all and there tons of good public schools.
