Why doesn't the state just send it to families at the same time?

Even if the state has everyone's addresses which I'm not sure they do, that would involve huge mailing and labor costs-- unnecessary ones when many counties have online systems that can distribute the reports for free.

What the state *should* do is make sure the reports go to counties quickly (not sure why it doesn't happen until Sept) and in a format that is as easy for districts to upload as possible, if they don't already.

Agreed. But if cost is really the issue, that's ridiculous as it's a huge cost to pull kids out of instructional time to take MCAP for 4 full days, which Maryland requires in the name of having transparency of outcomes and achievements, but somehow it's too costly to mail things to parents?

I don't want my tax dollars wasted on them sending out these results by mail when it could be done more cheaply by districts online. Do you seriously want yours to be?

You're missing the forest for the trees. No one wants the state to spend $10k on mailing things that the districts can put online for free. But the cost of yearly testing to hundreds of thousands of kids for four full days is high--and to have those results not shared for nearly a year is negligence on the part of MCPS.

How is this handled in the other MD school districts?

If only MCPS had a central office with thousands of staff members who could answer this question.

Why is everyone so interested in these reports anyway? Do you not basically know how your kid is doing in school from MAP results and grades and the like? The MCAP scores only really matter for a few classes in high school, right? And I thought that people generally think the tests aren't a great reflection of actual knowledge and proficiency?

(I mean, I understand that they should be available sooner just for the principle of the thing, but am I missing some reason why it's important to know ASAP?)

Only a few people are interested in MCAP report ( the same ones everyyear). Most people are not.

Why does it matter to you why other people are interested in the reports and are interested in transparency on achievements and outcomes? MCPS spent 4 days of our kids' lives testing them. If you're going to tell me that the data are useless and meaningless, then let our kids skip the tests so they can actually learn something new.

No one is asking to know "ASAP." Last year the test results were provided by MCPS to parents nearly a year later.

Sounds like you don't spend much time with "real people." There are plenty of parents at my kid's ES interested in the results, given that 4 days was taken out of the instructional schedule to test the kids for MCAP.

They came home in October last year, didn't they? I think some schools waited a long time to send but I'm pretty sure MCPS got them to schools by October and some schools sent them home then. That's nowhere near a year.

And the individual schools of everyone else on this thread? Just because you insist something happened at your school, doesn't make it so. There have been many threads on this MCPS forum that talk about the extreme lag in distributing MCAP scores. My bet is you're a central office troll and making things up.
