This thread is so interesting to me as far as how different people perceive the same place. I didn’t get “downtrodden” at all. Thought it was a charming little city. To each their own, I guess.

At the same time, it’s right in the Allentown song lyrics:

“And they're closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem they're killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line…”


I grew up in the area, so admittedly my view is skewed. It was a very boring place to be a teenager, but at least Lehigh has its own scene…far more than Lafayette or other local schools. A bit more happening with minor league baseball and hockey close by, but not much different.

It’s a great place for empty nesters to spend a weekend around the holidays.
