Any recourse for kids skipped on ladder for Divisionals?

lol. I’m sure we’re all sitting here thinking how much fun it would be having coffee with emoji girl right now

I understand the coach asked him to do a different stroke, but after his parent complained he was put in free as requested.

Definitely different kid, not same situation or strokes.

Talk to the decision maker (coach or rep) to seek clarity. It is unlikely to change the decision but they should have a solid reason for doing this (for example, a kids time is higher on the ladder but they DQ often, etc).

Agreed. Sounds like favoritism on the part of the coaches. OP should consider another team. Summer swim is about being inclusive, except when you are taking away something that was EARNED. The kid who didn't earn it should learn to work harder next time.

A complaint to NVSL will likely fall on deaf ears, as it will consider this an internal team matter.

I would out the team and look for a new pool. Toxic decision

My kid was passed up too. We are in it for the long game... looking forward to seeing the time for Saturday's meet. I think my swimmer's time at last Saturdays meet will beat their times.
At the end of the day tho, summer swim is not the beginning or end of a swim career.

See you at the meets in the Fall/Winter/Spring.

It is about placing high as an individual and trying to be top 18 to make All Stars. So yes the fastest kids in each event (can only do 2) should get first pick. Selfish and rotten move by the coach and team reps.

Completely agree. I’m a NVSL team rep and we would never do this. Fastest kids get first pick for Divisionals.

Swim lawyer here, this is terrible advice.

The NVSL kangaroo courts will never side against a coach.

You need to get a TRO from Fairfax circuit court. Have been successful many times against coaches who manipulate the ladder

I am a team rep and I only reviewed our meet sheet for accuracy and to make sure no one was entered into more than 2 events. The conversations about stroke selection and preferences occurred between the coaches and the swimmers, with the top swimmers across all strokes getting first pick. It would bother me to be on a team where a team rep had any influence over the meet sheet. That is 100% not cool.

Exactly. Another team rep here. I don’t make any decisions about who swims what strokes ever during the season. My role is to check the entries our coaches make for accuracy, and question any entries if they don’t make sense, but I play no role in meet strategy. That’s 100% up to our coaches. And follows the ladder 100% of the time.
