However, it doesn't look good to hold one of the very rare military parades the US has ever had, on the President's birthday! Not good optics at all.

It's also the 250th anniversary of the US Army.

... and if it hadn't been The birthday, no one would have thought of a parade on that day.

+1 When is the parade for the Marines, who are also celebrating their 250th this year?

You are incorrect.

No, they are not. Both Marines and Navy have their 250th this year. No plans thus far for a similar style parade

I agree, and frankly as an American I find it sort of odd that the French have those parades because it seems out of keeping with the national character in many ways, but you do you.

French PP again. Have you read the words of our national anthem, La Marseillaise? They're gory. It's a call to arms to citizens to protect their women and sons from having their throats cut by soldiers. When the song was written during the Revolution, the soldiers in question were Austrian. The song goes on to rant against tyrants, with numerous references to blood, blood-spattered banners, furrows in fields drinking blood, etc. Apparently it's Testosterone, Blood and Guts all the way in my country. It's BEYOND... but when you see my compatriots protesting in the streets and setting cars and government offices on fire, you'll see it's entirely in keeping with the national character!

American progressives would call it... toxic masculinity

Marine Corps birthday is November 10, 2025 and I think there are events being planned in Philadelphia (since the Marines were founded in Tun Tavern in Philly).

I read somewhere that the Army was already planning some celebrations on the mall this weekend (concerts, military displays, etc.) and they added this parade because Trump wanted it.

The Continental Marines were disbanded in 1783. The current US Marines were created in 1798. You want that hold a parade for a branch that hasn't existed for 250 years?

A bunch of tanks were trucked through Laurel a couple days ago. On a smallish residential type street. 7th street past the library and then turning onto 198 toward Ft Meade.

Any idea why they went through the city? I don't know if they were coming from 95, to 216. But if they were coming from 95, there are more direct routes to Ft Meade. It was very weird.

You might want to let the US Marine Corps know, because they are, indeed, celebrating a 250th birthday this year.

Marines are terrible at math. It’s from eating all those crayons.

Ask any other service member - they’ll tell ya.

Anybody remembers after 911, the military was stationed under bridges and in the parks as a security measure protecting the city. Since the Iran bombing there may have been threats.

DC has permanently staffed the under bridge locations with the unhoused.

Who are undoubtedly ready, willing, and able to contribute to society in that way.
