Seriously?!? Thanks for the spoiler. |
This is a good analysis and brings up a lot of good questions. All that said, Ginni was a complete good sport and very blameless in all of it. It's really hard to find fault with her or her relationship (even if it wasn't fabricated in an all that convincing manner!). They certainly shed her in a very good light. But it does make the most sense that Nick starts to go on her vacations and separate from his group a bit. |
I actually loved Danny and Claude's wardrobe. |
When they shared the backstory it became even more confusing. Only Danny, Kate and Jack are the college friends? Then Jack worked for Nick briefly until he got fired (he's a teacher now). I think I got that right. Anyway, I do not think Kate would be so chummy with her husband's rich boss who fired him's wife? I would think that's a very distant relationship. And why are Nick and Ann related to the college at all. Their kid wanted to go there? Or did one of them actually go to the college. I agree it doesn't make for such a close group as they are trying to be. |
It was boring AF. |
+1 tried to like like it. It felt forced |
It's just too slow. Endless awkward scenarios stop being funny pretty quickly. |
I just finished it this AM. I was strangely sad about Nick. It could be that I just love Steve F (he looks great, btw). But, overall, the whole series felt forced and full of stereotypical tropes. I did like;
Alan Alda’s cameo The play scene—hilarious Tina was so wooden, which was disappointing. And, while I could relate to the marriage themes, it was like being hit over the head with them…over and over. |
I love most of what tina fey does, she plays to her strengths which is the high functioning/overfunctioning professional daughter or wife who is surrounded by well meaning but underfunctioning/clueless friends and family (see Baby Momma, Date Night and Admission, for example). She's good here overall but I saw early on that she was sticking to what she knows best. Unlike a previous poster's comment, the couples felt real enough to me and tge acting was good overall. Steve Carrel especially. I found the music cloying and overdone but it was done by Jeff Richmond, Fey's husband, who is very talented. But it seemed a mismatch to me. |
I thought she was more wooden in the beginning but improved. |
I just don't understand why Kate would stay with her husband. That coupling makes no sense. |
I appreciate that they didn't make the younger GF a cliche. Appealing character. |
I didn't love it, but it grew on me. I'd watch a season 2. |
I thought it was entertaining-not great but fun. As someone in midlife, I appreciate seeing middle aged actors/characters onscreen. While I wasn't crazy about the ending overall I thought it was a good watch. |
I enjoyed the show. I really enjoyed the Alan Alda cameo, and it made me miss him. I didn't realize that he both wrote and directed (as well as starred in) the original movie, which I also enjoyed. He was ahead of his time. |
