Nobody has anyway of knowing if someone is a “DEI hire” without being privy to said person’s work experience and education or the hiring processes of the organization. Otherwise you are just saying it because the person is a minority. We know nothing about the history of any of these people involved in the crash. |
The president of the US just said these people cause the crash and these people are still working today. Air travel is not safe. |
He also blamed people with I/DD:
"I do want to point out that various articles that appeared prior to my entering office, and here's one the FAA's diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities," Trump said. "That is amazing, and then it says, FAA says people with severe disabilities are most underrepresented segment of the workforce, and they want them in and they want them. They can be air traffic controllers, I don't think so. This was in Jan. 14, [2024], so that was a week before I entered office. They put a big push to put diversity into the FAA's program. Then another article, the Federal Aviation Administration. This was before I got to office recently, second term. The FAA is actively recruiting workers who suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, and other mental and physical conditions under under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency's website. Can you imagine?" |
There are other staff that work for the FAA besides ATCs. |
I wish I could laugh except 70 people are dead. yeah sure. this crash happened because the air traffic controllers had Down syndrome. |
I mean, duh. But he's going to put that filth out there, take a cheap shot at people with I/DD who had nothing to do with this, just for sport. He's a monster. |
No it isn't. The people who are left are exhausted, and that includes the military pilots. It's been an exhausting two weeks, and there are consequences when you essentially exhaust your employees, when they are providing essential public services. No, it is not safe to fly right now. |
Yeah, it couldn't possibly be the party that wants to gut regulations. |
I don't think ATC is faultless. It looks like the helicopters were focused on runway 1, which is where the vast majority of take-offs and landings occur at Reagan. They probably believed they had the American Eagle plane in sight. However, it can be very difficult to identify different types of aircraft, particularly at night while wearing night vision goggles that severely limit peripheral vision. But most importantly, they did not seem aware that the American Eagle had been instructed at the last minute to use the little used runway 33, which crosses runway 1 and necessitates a different approach. The lack of clear instructions from ATC in a very busy airspace at night should be investigated. And I think it's nuts that helicopters are routinely told to rely on visual contact while crossing busy runways at night. |
Most of you probably aren't old enough to remember Reagan fired over 11,000 air traffic controllers in 1991 and then there was a terrible plane crash in DC in 1982. Republican Presidents don't believe in regulations and the public suffers. |
I'm not a Republican, but that crash had zero to do with air traffic control. |
amen, and that is one of the problems with DEI - it raises questions about the competency of all minority hires, many of whom would have been hired without preferential treatment. That is why a lot of minorities oppose DEI hiring and came over to vote for Trump this time. |
Let' just hope that there wasn't an illegal immigrant on the plane. If there was, they will be blamed for this tragedy. |
Not true. There's a VAS Aviation youtube where you can hear the exchange between DCA Tower and the Blackhawk. The Blackhawk was explicitly instructed to look for a CRJ over Wilson Bridge at 1200', on the approach for runway 33. Now... it might have been better if the controller had said "XX miles, 10 o'clock" so that the helicopter pilot would have automatically looked to their left, rather than (maybe) fixating on the their right. But the controller's instructions were at least sufficient, especially considering the helicopter pilot then reported visual contact. |
NP. Actually I watched his news conference and it was a full out blast on DEI. He blamed DEI over and over again. He may have not said minorities but he used the term DEI over and over again. |
