School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

Well, there was that one time when they cancelled for rain. But I agree that this is spectacularly bad.

All childcare is delayed 2 hours too. Terrible decision

+1 I think parents should organize for legislation that requires MCPS to pay for parents' childcare costs when they require childcare providers to close and everything else (county, city, federal government) is open.

"Due to hazardous weather conditions and extreme cold temperatures, all afternoon and evening community use activities at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will be canceled, Tuesday, January 21, 2025."

Don’t see that. Only the 5:30 note.

I subscribe to the CUPF alerts because I coach Rec basketball. CUPF controls who can use facilities/does all the permitting. Here's the link to their blog page:

Guys the ONLY reason they mentioned 5:30pm at first is for sports that had games/matches/meets BEFORE 5:30pm could not be cancelled because it was too late. The kids were already on buses to away events, refs, coaches, and parents were en route and so forth.

So ALL after school activities and practices were cancelled and ALL school sports and county events after 5:30pm were cancelled.

Seriously. There is a profound problem with MCPS as a whole. We are paying this new superintendent $360,000 per year to make stupid decisions like this one. The cultural rot at MCPS runs very deep.

Here and there for temps below 0 degrees, yes. It is 20 degrees right now. It will be 31 degrees on Thursday.

+1 ridiculous

What an embarassment

I can understand if the temp were subzero but this is ridiculous.

Every indoor sport, theater, choir, band, clubs etc.. are inside in the winter. It makes no sense

None at all. Winter activities have been very disrupted this year. No reason for it.

Really? Equating the promotion of a sexual predator with bad weather calls? The gaslighting here is special.

Yup! Everyone who was so enamored with Dr. Taylor because he's a white man who did cheeky rap videos about snow days really needs to eat crow now.

The communication was neither clear or remotely timely AND it's a confusing call because it's just cold. If it was snowing or there was some sort of precipitation forecasted it might make a little more sense. But this is a last minute cancelation for indoor events. It was made even more confusing because MCPS/Alert Montgomery came out saying activities would be on after 5:30 and then CUPF announcement said everything is canceled.

Not all indoor practices were cancelled.

Voters, we are the problem. He's obviously not a serious man but the issue goes much deeper than him

Where is the video announcing the delays? We want more videos.

Oh wait they now cancel so much they can't keep up with the productions.

I remember MCPS closing for cold years ago. But apparently a lot of people don't.

Is Essie McGuire the problem? She's the constant here and she seems like she's manipulating Dr. Taylor quite a bit with her insider knowledge having worked for both MCPS and the County Council.
