Hire many times do I need to be told about emergency meals?

This is OP. Why are you all assuming this doesn’t apply to me? I didn’t say that. I didn’t say anything about whether my family needed this food or whether we would be able to access the distribution points or anything else except that I was glad they do it and the notifications were too much. It’s bizarre that all of you virtue signaling seem to forget that not everyone on this page is the same demographic as you are.

I also didn’t “sign up” for a dozen notifications btw.

I have at least a dozen emails from Jostens bugging me to buy my middle schooler's yearbook from Jostens, the latest suggesting a payment plan for me to purchase it. I don't mind emails about food for poor students. I do mind MCPS sharing my email with spamming vendors.

+1 though at least you can unsubscribe from those without missing anything important

You 100% did not need to pick up the food. Get real! Go shovel some snow so you can touch some grass.

How did you get 12 notifications? I have kids at 2 schools too and I think I only got 3 total. Alert Montgomery. Mcps. And MCPS via email.

Ah. Nice finding the “screw the poor people” thread. Typical Potomac/kensington/chevy chase housewife complaining because texts about food for poor people disrupts her alcohol delivery texts.

You have no idea. I had no transport to pick up food today.

Not OP, but I got all of the district level communications plus school level notifications. For some reason the school sent everyone the English and Spanish messages separately despite the fact that the justification for using Remind as a district was so translation could be easier

If you're the OP if this thread you are 100% LYING.

Sure. Because OP has the knowledge, resources, and leisure to opt out. Critiquing MCPS for sending the messages out in the first place is actually not even relevant, since OP can choose not to receive the messages that are not useful to them.

And the answer to the question "how many times do I need to be told about emergency meals?" is actually multiple-choice.

a) until you opt out
b) until every single hungry family in the county knows how to access emergency food on snow days
c) both a and b

However, this is an emergency for many food-insecure families, which goes beyond those who qualify for FARMS. I received two texts this morning--one from Alert MCPS and one from ParentVue. These are two separate systems, likely with separate databases. It sounds like you've signed up for multiple ways to get information--and perhaps selected to be notified by both text and email--so you are getting it multiple times. MCPS needs to try to reach all their families; they have to use all their platforms.

How could a family be food insecure but not qualify for FARMS?

I’m a teacher and my kids used to qualify for free meals when I first started teaching. Then they were no longer eligible but I’d have to skip paying some bills to afford food. I just alternated which bills I skipped each month. That went on for years. Some extra food would’ve really helped that situation.

+1 DCUM is full of posters more out of touch than Marie Antoinette. You can have a job and still struggle to pay bills. You can not qualify for assistance but still have needs. You can be educated and “appear” to be doing fine yet are actually struggling. You can post on DCUM and have financial struggles. You can live in any part of the county and find it hard to make ends meet. You can benefit from programs and also be annoyed about being barraged with repetitive notifications. And you can qualify for assistance but find it difficult to take advantage of it, or forgo it for other reasons.

How do you opt out from receiving duplicate messages while still receiving them once and also still receiving other important school messages? No one sent the code red messages a dozen times and yet all families got that message (or did kids show up at school on Monday?!). Perhaps the messages could be combined?

Just ignore the texts and be grateful you don't need to know about extra meals. I'm glad they are over-communicating this for families that do.

We’re one of those families. We read our emails and texts. no need to send over and over.

That's great that you are on multiple communication channels. Not all familes are. Just ignore the ones after the first one.
