| What happened to raking. Please ban leaf blowers. |
Agree! What happened to raking? |
|
Raking is a terrible idea for a landscape crew.
They make money on clear expanses of grass and bare mulch. Raking leaves off mulch is misery. And then you have to sweep all the paved areas. A blower is much, much faster and saves the bodies of your crew. Duh. |
Saves the crew maybe but hurts the environment and also the local neighborhood who needs to listen to the noise and deal with the fumes. If people want all the leaves removed from their gardens (also bad for the environment btw) then they should be forced to do it manually or pay for someone else to do it. |
LOL how fat and lazy are you that you can’t rake 0.6 acres? |
Listen, it’s not too late for you. Those 2-3 times a year you blow the leaves? Just… stop doing that. |
At least you aren't in a country being bombarded and destroying all the trees. No leaves for several decades. |
DP. I mow until it gets too cold, about late November. The leaf buildup after that isn't too much for the mower. The yard isn't pristine but oh well. It's not a golf course on national TV. |
| I use a rake and pile the leaves around the bushes. It decomposes into very good fertilizer. I don't understand why people blow away their leaves then go out and buy fertilizer. |
LOL. How are the leaf blowers for the crew? I’m fairly confident that they will have significant hearing loss in the future. I see very few landscapers wearing ear protection. If I can hear the stupid blower three blocks over how is it for the worker? Also, it’s absolutely terrible for the environment. It causes gas pollution and noise pollution. Also, removing every last leaf from a yard kills caterpillars who need the leaves to survive winter which in turn hurts birds which in turn hurts our food supply. Trying to keep a pristine, green lawn is such a waste of resources and very detrimental to the environment. Years from now we’ll look back on the foolishness of it all. |

I live in Clarendon. They do it all the time. These guys aren't even paying attention, just randomly blowing sh*t around in the streets.
My neighbor had a landscaper that was blowing her leaves and stuff into my driveway. I was leaving to pick up a kid and just shot him a death glare and he started blowing it in another direction. |
This. I’m home so I see the crews all around the neighborhood. Mostly, they just blow stuff around. The other day the landscaper was just blowing dirt. |
| same op same. |
| The reason the leaf blower drives me crazy and the lawn mower does not is that the leaf blower constantly revs up and down, like accelerating and decelerating, so it's not just a steady hum. Anyway, I feel you, OP. |
It's too late. I'm firmly on the garbage continuum, because we have many oak trees and those S.O.B. leaves don't break down easily or thoroughly. I raked them all for years, and am choosing to no longer do that. |
