Yet another GOP shutdown?

Shutdowns cost more than regular funded government operations. 💡

These two things right here.

Shutdowns cost more than keeping government running. Every time Congress goes to shutdown they spend taxpayer money to do it.

Also, Congress has given themselves a raise even as they fret over spending, create DOGE and associated committee to look at feds (feds are not Congress), etc.

Please be aware of these things.

After decrying a "swamp" run by "unelected bureaucrats" Elon Musk has emerged as the top gator in the swamp and the country's most powerful unelected bureaucrat.

Congratulations, MAGAs. You just MADE the US government exactly the thing you said you were fighting against.

If the government shuts down, its 100% your fault.

The pay raise is almost 40%. And let's not pretend they aren't also grossly enriching themselves through grift, insider trading and other things. At least half of the Members of Congress are now worth millions of dollars.

So I guess MAGA doesn’t actually care about the people impacted by hurricanes in North Carolina and Florida?

Also. They don’t have time to mess around any more. They’ve been fooling around all year and at the 11th hour are caving to one unelected official. Not even an appointed official.

The GOP is a travesty.

Republicans answer to the richest man in the world. The rest of us can get f’d. Elon needs his tax cuts and subsidies.

Maybe they will nominate Musk since he's already xitting at them what to do

Sounds like President Musk decided to shut down the govt until January 20

I wonder if Trump is at least a little embarrassed that Elon is running the show. Probably not though since the dementia is so bad he has no idea it’s happening.

Well this is an unexpected twist.

He's too busy parading his new hairstyle and playing golf.

Nope, that's yet another Elon/Twitter- created lie. The pay raise is a COLA raise, 3.8%.

Rank-and-file lawmakers in both chambers earn $174,000 annual salary, with those in leadership earning more. The maximum potential member pay adjustment in January 2025 under the stopgap spending bill would be 3.8 percent, which would result in a salary of $180,600, an increase of $6,600.

Part of me pictures Elon and Vivek sitting there saying "Here's the plan - we'll force a government shutdown, and the agencies will tell us who's essential and who's not, and then we restart the government and fire everyone who was non-essential. This is gonna be so easy" and then sitting back, lighting cigars and grinning idiotically at each other reveling in their imagined galaxy-brain moment. But not actually having the slightest idea of what any of that actually means.

It’s possible you are correct.

But I think you may be giving them too much credit.

Still. I wish that a shutdown would actually be a full shutdown with no government services. Then people could honestly assess whether they want a federal government or not.
