This is sexist. They are 17 for a month or two. Better than 19. |
This post is a straw-man argument because almost nobody redshirts their kid. Even the vast majority of kids born between October and December start on time. I started a year late because I'm small and would've looked like a hobbit next to my peers, but I'm over 30 now and can count on one hand the number of people I know, myself included, who were redshirted. So you just sound like a hammer looking for a nail. |
Who is turning 19...? |
Why is it better? What difference does it make? Gap years are a thing. Military service is a thing. You go when you are ready and that’s not 17 for the vast majority. |
Of course Oct-Dec go on time because in almost every state they are the oldest. Not NY so you must be from NY. |
I guess it depends. My 24and 19 year olds are living at home. One just graduated college and one is in trade school. It's lot easier now than it was when they were in high school. |
I can't argue with you there. I can't think of one male as smart as Alberta Einstein, Stephanie Hawking, Charlotte Darwin, Isabel Newton, or Belle Gates. |
Generally, kids who are the oldest end up being more financially successful. The downside is that they have shorter life expectancies than those who were younger relative to their classmates. |
We redshirted our late-August girl, so she turned 18 right at the beginning of senior year and 19 as she started college. No regrets. Possibly one of the best decisions we've ever made.
So I wouldn't generalize. |
The Anti-Redshirt crusade can never do math. |
I doubt that’s true but, hey, at least their heirs are taken care of. Worth it. |
I mean we did this for years in Canada, we had grade 13 and most of us graduated at 19…… |
Military service is not a gap year. It’s silly. Get a job, military, college or trade school. Only rich are traveling it’s basically a rich kid thing. |
If you are a Jan-June kid you’d turn 19 during the school year if help back. June through fall turn 19 that summer. |
Of course it’s not a gap year. You do your service then you go to college. There are many reasons people don’t go straight to a 4 year school. They may even stay home and do 2 years at a CC. Or work and save money. |
