Immigration - how is it such a huge issue in this race?

But really? It seems like people I know who are not particularly affected by this issue are focused on it as a deciding factor in the election. It’s immigration, immigration, immigration.

Is immigration that terrible for our country? In my world at least, the most obvious related issue I see is that small businesses don’t have enough labor. So immigration is a good thing.

Maybe I’m myopic. Can someone please explain?

I don't think it is an immigration issue. The issue is that for whatever reason millions of ILLEGAL immigrants came over the border in the past 5-10 years. I am voting for Harris btw. I think dems need to address this issue better.

Good luck with that.

The GOP and right wing media drum this up as an issue before every election and then promptly forget it the day after.

In a nutshell, the immigrants that used to disappear into Texas or Manassas or Hyattsville are now showing up in Montgomery, and Fairfax and NYC and causing Democrats to freak out. Immigration wasn't a problem for them as long as they went "somewhere else."

I live in MoCo and still don’t see a problem. I’m fine with immigrants being here. They are good workers and contribute to the county. I really don’t get what the big deal is either.

What you are missing is legal vs illegal immigration.

It’s a big deal.

Legal immigration, we get people from other countries before they are allowed to come her. We need more doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers. We need many legal immigrants.

What we don’t need is 10 million migrants or illegal immigrants here claiming asylum. Most of these migrants don’t qualify and economic asylum is not a thing. If they were persecuted in their original country, once they left and hit places like Mexico, they are no longer in danger from the original claim.

And how many of these do we need to work in Fields picking produce. We have tens of thousands living in the cites doing nothing. Many are not educated and can barely speak or read Spanish. Where are they all to live as we also have a housing shortage?

So we need more legal immigrants and less migrants.

After the MAGA lying about the LEGAL Haitian immigrants in Ohio, I no longer buy the “we’re only against illegal immigration” line.

No, I follow conservative media and the border and illegal immigration are reported on all of the time. Fox News even has reporters and cameras/drones at the border.

As someone who is not affiliated with a party, I was essentially turned into a Republican over the open borders agenda Democrats have adopted. I won’t consider voting for Kamala or any Democrat over this issue.

You’re a MAGA. Of course you’re not voting for Harris.

I don’t consider myself “MAGA” but I am strongly against illegal immigration. I am voting for Trump because my finances were better under his presidency and he secured our border. I cannot vote for a candidate who is in favor of illegal immigration, the same way other women cannot vote for candidates over their abortion stance.

There are about two million legal immigrants every year. One million for green card lottery and more than that is green cards for family members.
Then there are illegal immigrants with a lot of people showing up on tourist or student visas and not leaving.
Biden/Harris on top of that are letting in millions more illegal immigrants every year. Many through parole, and an app where they don't show up at the border to claim asylum.
Or they claim asylum at the border, and they let them in with a court date that they may or may not shown up for, and it could be scheduled years in the future.
They are under no obligation to let them into the country, but they want to remake the US population to be more favorable to electing Democrats.

Because Trump made it a huge issue with his fear mongering. We do not currently have an open border, despite his lies. Do you truly believe anyone can just walk in? Can you at least fact check before repeating the lies Trump tells?

Not true. Not "villianized immigrants."
Decrying the number of illegal immigrants who have crossed over and been allowed to remain here accessing services as if citizens when we already have too many kids and families who are steuggling financially.

Similarly democrats initiate then ignore millions flooding across the border for 3.5 years while gas lighting that there isn't anything they can do then 5 months before the election "suddenly" find a solution.

You must not have been in MoCo when they had one of the top school systems in the country. Not anymore.

I would say that falsely accusing a community of legal immigrants as pet eaters would count as “villainizing immigrants.”

My kids go to MCPS now. There aren’t hoards of illegals stealing their lunch money no matter how many times the MAGAs claim the schools are overrun with illegals.
