Chappelle Roan concert meltdowns

First, she came out and said she’s not gonna be pressured into endorsing a political candidate because there’s issues with both sides. This really pissed people off because she claims to be such an avid LGBTQ + advocate, particularly an advocate of trans people . She’s openly gay herself. So no matter your beliefs there’s obviously one party who fights for those rights as opposed to the other party. So it left her fans really confused about her message. Then, she ranted on social media saying of course she’s going to vote for Kamala, while mispronouncing her name, but saying she was just asking people to use critical thinking skills when choosing a candidate. She went on and on for about 10 minutes about how people need to use their critical thinking skills speaking pretty condescendingly to her fans.

I love her music but as a person she’s not very likable. I don’t care who she votes for, she should’ve just kept it to herself like she wanted to, but it’s more her attitude toward her fans that is so offputting.

I don’t understand why dumb videos on social media are a reason to cancel your concerts. No one would care - everyone wanted to go to her show.

I’m telling you folks - she’s a big ol’ phony. She concocted some dumb “controversy” to try to weasel out of a low paying weekend gig she agreed to a year ago when she was still playing 1000 seat theaters. She somehow managed to play other recent events. And I bet she plays ACL next weekend where she’s getting PAID big money. She already told everyone Chappelle Roan is a “character.” All of this is inauthentic and tbh I’m starting to doubt if the drag and pro-LBGTQ thing is just facade and money grab.

I suspect this, too. And she wouldn’t be the only one—there’s a lot money in it. I remember reading an article about her before she got huge (my teen DD is a big fan)—as I recall her career wasn’t going anywhere for years, then she went though a painful breakup with a boyfriend, reinvented herself as LGBT and became an overnight sensation.

Maybe- who cares? Why does that even matter?

Do you think Beyoncé and Taylor’s costumes are real? No one runs around in bejeweled ice skating costumes.

NP. This is the most bizarre "comeback." Beyonce and Taylor Swift are indeed, real people. Chappell Roan's stage persona is a character, as the PPP correctly stated.

I think a family unit keeps these stars who are in a way very exposed and very vulnerable. Look at what happened to Justin Bieber and countless others who were left on their own.

You’re comparing an adult to two kids who were teens when they hit fame. Shouldn’t adults be able to adult in their late 20s?

Chappell started in the biz when she was 17. Taylor started at 15. Chappell may be 26 now but the support that was there or not there during her early years would have an impact. Again look at Beiber, Demi, etc.

But nobody heard of her until a few months ago. She’s not going to make it if this is how she acts the moment she becomes famous. Also her music kind of sucks. She sounds too much like someone from the 80s I can’t put my finger on. Every song she has I feel like I’ve heard it before. Nothing special.

She’s been building a fan base for at least the last few years. This year was her coming out party. Her segment at Lala drew the biggest crowds. It might seem overnight to you but it’s been years. 80s sound is making a comeback. I don’t care either way if you like her music or not. I agree she is not going to survive the industry bc she lacks emotional regulation. She goes off on photographers. And she’s nowhere the level of Harry or Taylor. If everything is a trigger she should not aim for stardom.

I’m sure you’re the most dedicated superfan, but nobody else had really heard of her until recently. The fame has gone to her head and not in a good way.

Not at all. Are you always this ornery?? I discovered her recently but did the research on her rise. That’s all. Now When was the last time you had some XCX you sound very tense.

So why are you telling me “She’s been building her fan base” when, you, like everyone else just heard about her. That’s some pedantic googling only to agree with me.

You’re so much fun. You have no idea 😃

So fun! Like going to a Chapell Roan concert! Oh wait…

This flash in the pan will be over before she even really started.

Someone posted that she's bipolar and that makes sense, especially if she's unmedicated. There are a few artists I follow who have mental health issues that make touring difficult so they either don't tour or they just do small shows or select festivals. Granted by doing this they will never be household names.

I actually saw her over the summer at a music festival in May before I knew who she was and the crowd she drew was huge and she seems she only got bigger since. I think she probably got so popular so fast without realizing the impact on her mental health.

+1 She's a professional.

She bipolar and she went from singing to 50 people to 25000.

She literally went from playing on the side stage to the front stage in a weekend.

She went from walking down the street unnoticed to being attacked by paparazzi in a week.

She is obviously having a nervous breakdown. If you haven’t watched her on the red carpet or any other interactions with media, you would be confused.

if you watched her in the last six weeks you would’ve seen this coming.

The reality is, this industry at this point should have something in place for the support of new artists, and old artists, and former artists… and anybody in between.

The “industry” Isn’t ever protecting a bipolar woman, they’re full of pedophiles and sex offenders. Get real.

I’ve only heard the songs that play on the radio, but my impression has been ersatz Cyndi Lauper.

Drawing attention to mental health is a pretty generic phrase and not always a good thing.

Never heard of this person but throwing out the words mental health doesn’t actually do anything for anyone.

Yeah this. Canceling all the shows is unprofessional. But “being professional” is not a huge concern when you are in mental crisis. I hope she can stabilize and figure out what she wants. Honestly, I’m surprised anyone even wants fame anymore, it’s not worth the $

Yep. She performs in the pouring rain if needed.

I just read that she has performed over 800 concerts in her career and cancelled only for the following reasons:

1) COVID shutting everything down cancelled 2 shows
2) 3 shows cancelled because of a terrorist threat in Vienna
3) 1 show cancelled because of a military coup in Thailand

That's it.

I have tickets to All Things Go. My daughter is an OG Chappell Roan fan - as in Pink Pony Club was her top song of 2020? 2021? Whenever it came out. So our family has enjoyed Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess for a year, and we were really excited when Chappell blew up the way she has. She is exceptionally talented and entertaining.

I’m disappointed that she canceled, but I’m not surprised. I honestly expected it given recent events. Still going to ATG - too expensive a ticket to bail entirely. But I wouldn’t have gotten the tickets at all. I do respect her need to step back. But it should be a step back from everything, not this selective “this concert but not that one.”

Why would bring bipolar affect her ability to go on tour? Why can she only tour at large venues and not the smaller ones she agreed to do before she blew up?

Her name is Kayleigh. I mean, what do we expect

Most likely there's commitment with the bigger venues and it's harder for her to drop. If she's not stable then it will negatively impact not just her but everyone around her. Selena Gomez talked about how hard touring was for her as well. She had her kidney issues but it also made her mood swings worst.
