I wonder if someone isn't trying to encourage an admitted student to turn down Princeton so their kid can get in off the waiting list. The admissions department indicated within the last week that they expect to make some offers within the next few weeks. |
That wouldn’t be my first conclusion. Princeton is known to be kind of an unhappy place in recent years, hence all the suicides. |
Nah, the vast majority of students have a great experience. You're wallowing in misery for reasons that have little to do with Princeton. |

My son bickered sophomore spring and didn’t get into an eating club. He bickered again fall junior year and got in. So it’s still possible. |
Op here- thx they may try again. Assume your son had friends in that club already? |
This is silly. Of all the kids around the world out there who are admitted but considering not attending, maybe one or two have a parent who may or may not see this thread. If that’s the strategy, family isn’t bright enough to get someone into a highly selective place. Seriously. Why not just answer with constructive suggestions? I wish I had one to add, but all the above ideas sounded like what I might have said. |
What about band, ultimate Frisbee, theater (they always need backstage hands), volunteering, Outdoor Action? There are a zillion ways to meet people in college. What was your kid into in high school? Can they join some of those kinds of activities or try some new ones? There are probably other kids who feel similarly. Bicker is brutal but if you look past it Princeton offers so many great opportunities--remind your kid there is life outside of bicker clubs! |
To outsiders, this sounds exactly like the kind of misery that Princeton is known for. |

I know Terrace has had a stoner rep since at least the late 1980s, but I have several friends who were members and they are all kind, fun, responsible middle-aged adults now. They all had great experiences there. |
Failed at bicker?
That is tough. Time to transfer. |
Sounds like segregation is not uncommon at Princeton. |
These kids are great.

Sounds more like you don't know what you're talking about. |
