Flowers are so boring and 'typical' women gift. It requires zero creditivity and thought.

Next someone will suggest candles or soap. Boring!

Give me all the candles and all the soap, especially special, high end ones. Can't stand flowers, they die, useless. A plant is great.

You are a great mother in law for caring. Very nice to read your question and you have a lot of good answers here.

I like flowers but can think of them as a low effort gift.

What did you get her last year and the year before? Did she like those gifts?

I'm a practical kind of person. Are she and your son well off? I've gotten folks gas cards before and they loved it. I've done beer and wine and champagne.

Wonderful bottle of wine and a gift check.

Works for all celebrations for adults.

OP I think ignore the suggestions of cash, check or babysitting. I know they’re well meaning, but teenagers don’t need a babysitter, and a busy working mom doesn’t need a gift card. I sound similar to your dil and I love receiving little gifts from places that I wouldn’t buy myself something from. My favorite tea related gifts have been from fortnum & mason. The packaging is amazing, and they ship. They have some nice boxes with tea and amazing jam, etc. They also have unique tea diffusers and things

I know some posters thought it would be OK if the present came a few days late, but four months seems like a stretch

My favorite tea is the Mariage Freres loose tea. It is gorgeous, incredibly fragrant, and it feels quite luxurious to drink a cup. They have gift boxes made of two types of tea. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

I know you said no gift certificates, but if you get her an Amazon gift card, she can load it on her account and use it for books/kindle books she might want.

You could put $50 on an Amazon gift card and then send her a nice tea assortment or a flowering tea set that includes a clear pot (I haven’t actually had any of the flowering teas, but they’ve always seemed like they would be fun to try).
