My kids are now in HS and college prospects are dim - people like to say it's like a private school at a public cost, but our college admissions say otherwise. There also aren't the same opportunities because it's such a small school. The social aspect is also dismal, since there is no where to turn when there are 180-200 kids in a class and you've know almost all of them since you were 5.

I know many people who would like to move out of FCC but can't due to interest rates. I could sell my house off market today, but I feel like I'd end up in a worse house in a so-so district in Fairfax, so we're stuck here. It's fine, but I wouldn't buy here today knowing what I know now. Only upside is that I don't think my house will ever lose value, so I've got that going for me...

You do realize that colleges admit students, not their hs, right? Your children's dim (your word, not mine) college prospects are definitely not a result of attending FCC public schools.

I do think this year many very high stats kids-national level honors/As/over1500 SATs didn't really get what they deserved in regards to college admissions.

No one "deserves" admission to a particular school or schools.

I will also say that ECs are actually easier to access, and especially get leadership positions so that is a plus. Socially it is what it is. I know many people at McLean where their kids are suffering socially, so a big school isn't necessarily the solution.

Jeez, someone is in a mood tonight! Does this hit too close to home?
It seems compared to FCPS with same stats had better outcomes.

I meant to say FCPS kids had better outcomes with similar stats.

Lol. No. I just think the ignorant entitlement you are dripping with is gross.

"ignorant, entitled and gross" are not words that kind people use, kindness is really beneficial for your soul, try it sometimes

OK, so total tax paid is always going to be a combination of tax rate and property values.
The rest of that list are counties, which usually cover a larger area with more of a mix of urban/suburban/rural. Since property values are generally higher in more densely populated areas, counties will have more of a mix of property tax bills than a small area of all well-off, fairly dense population (like FCC). If you compared FCC to other individual towns of similar size, that might actually be a meaningful comparison.

Grew up in one of the New Jersey counties listed and I don’t think this hold. New Jersey overall is the most densely populated state. And those counties are also extremely well off, probably more so than FCC. The schools are much better (and teachers paid better as well) so in that case makes more sense although not to say that FCC doesn’t have decent schools. But you’re making a distinction that doesn’t exist.
