Yes, thank God!!!

We do not participate in the group gift, we give our teachers individual gifts based on their work. I do not understand making appreciation week a “I have a pulse in a school” week. We have had some truly extraordinary teachers who deserve to be shown how much their class recognizes and appreciates all they’ve done, not bundled in to get the same as the teachers barely phoning it in. It’s bad enough they get the same salary.

Our family has always given selected middle and high school teachers a gift. Each child has chosen two or three teachers to whom to give a gift.

We don't see it as forced. It's voluntary but sincere.

Having raised three teenagers, with two more currently in the teenager stage, I think middle and high school teachers deserve appreciation more than anyone. We will definitely send tokens of gratitude to those who spend their day with 12 to 16 year Olds.

Just so you know-even the teachers you deem great.....don't care what you think. Parents on here somehow think teachers are just losing sleep over their opinion. Nope. And we deal with a lot of parents with barely a pulse phoning in their parenting. So keep your Starbucks card.

I don’t do it so the teacher will value my opinion— though I believe that some do— I do it so my child learns that our family recognizes extraordinary effort on their behalf and doesn’t take it as a given.

And since we have teachers in our family I know better than to give a Starbucks gift card.

We do. We choose not to participate in any of the nonsense since you already get a salary and we want to save money.

It’s always been voluntary.

Our ES does it in March and I think because of that it is pretty low key. The PTA and admin does something each day for a week for the entire staff.

Why even comment if you don’t care?

Also I do know that teachers care what parents think - especially when the emails start rolling in. The teachers can’t stop talking about it.

Yeah it would be pretty remarkable if teachers were the only human beings in the world who didn’t care to be told when their work was excellent.

Also they complain bitterly when they get negative feedback to anyone who will listen. They most definitely care what parents think.

You sound like someone who complains bitterly
