Has NPR lost America’s trust?

I still like NPR but they definitely don't love it as much as I did. Some programs are still interesting like WWDTM and others often feel like waste of time e.g Radio Lab.

Puuuuleease! I am a proud lifelong Democrat, even attended the 1988 Democrat Convention in Atlanta and saw Bill Clinton make his debut. NPR is boring, naval-gazing comfort food for people wanting to hear their own views lovingly reaffirmed 24/7.

Dad?!!?!

This is soooo true. I’m as liberal as they come but can’t stand this idea that I need to go form to a narrative and that if I don’t it must be because I voted for Trump . Wake up people !

That’s because you are regular liberal Democrat. Much of the programming is for progressives only. They should rename it PPR.

This. It's incredibly sad. And I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. It does make me sad because I think that it's impacting things like NPR that I used to like and value.

100% agree. Wow. I’m no trumper and not right wing in the least. NPR lost me and I’m bummed out about it. It was the soundtrack of my twenties and thirties.

I used to donate to NPR and listen to them everyday. I still listen to freakonomics podcast. I believe strongly in human dignity and openness, and I cannot listen to NPR or most left leaning media. I no longer consider myself to be liberal, either.

Since Covid, it has been awful. I was a daily listener previously. I still listened a lot until the abortion issue came out. Then it became insufferable. 24 hours about abortion for weeks. I haven’t listened since.

I’m fully pro-choice and didn’t leave my house for close to a year. It isn’t that I disagree with the general principals, but they are off their rockers woke now.

This is the attitude that's driving people away from NPR.

I'm a true liberal and some NPR programming is too much for me. Far too biased for even me to handle. But, as another PP said, it's primarily All Things Considered. This American Life and other shows can be enjoyable.

+1. NP, and I'm a true liberal and long-time resident of Takoma Park. But I find today's NPR's limited perspectives, grievance-airing and hectoring to be unlistenable. I work in a field that relies on facts and, for my news, I want facts not opeds, thank you.

Has npr changed, or have you/we changed?

The reality is most people become more conservative as they age. Not maga trumper conservative, but certainly less tolerant of super duper way of the deepend lefty stuff.

A lot of npr remains fairly middle of the road or left of center, but the kooky stuff rises to the top and skews the overall perception.

I think you’ve changed. Age makes you more easily annoyed…which is why you find some of npr annoying.

Just listened to All Things Considered tonight and thought it was fine.

Do you agree with Uri Berliner’s view? Or is he wrong?

I don't think he's 100% wrong or 100% right here. I have issues with using the Hunter Biden laptop story as evidence of bias. He links to an opinion piece from The Hill as a source demonstrating NPR's bias and leaves out the entire reason news outlets beyond the NY Post didn't carry the story: It was an October surprise from the most dishonest President in history's team and the news outlets weren't provided the opportunity to examine the hard drive. And then he links to the Washington Post story and analysis of the hard drive (after they were provided access to it from a named Republican activist (sourcing!). And that story was far from a silver bullet - they could only actually authenticate less than 2% of the emails. I realize that's a long explanation, but context matters.

I think he's partially right on "wokeness," but it also comes across as just being aggrieved with changes. I don't know if he went to a very different unconscious bias training than I went to, but I found that very eye-opening. The rest is over the top.

Anyway, I think he brings up important and relevant points. I think he could have made his point without pulling in sources with their own bias.

I was at a town committee meeting in a small wealthy northeast town last week when a man was told that it was offensive that he refer to himself, TO HIMSELF, as “he” in a document. We are no longer allowed to call ourselves “women” anymore. This week I must refer to myself as an AFAB. No, it isn’t I who had changed. This is nuts.
