-Pump up the Jam

...And Sweet Caroline

And I guess Smells Like Teen Spirit, too

Oh, and It's the End of the World as we know it - REM

Exactly the same here! I somehow never realized that was the song title or Paul attention to the band name. I googled it, the video came up, and I realized I did indeed know every word. My kids (ranging from 14 to 24) always had it on playlists they made for long drives. It’s a pretty excellent song.

When I was in college—class of ‘90–You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC was blasted at every party.

I'm high school class of 2000 and surprised no one has said Semi Charmed Life.

Graduation Vit c seemed to be at every graduation for a while. I’m pretty sure it played at my 6th grade graduation

This one definitely goes in Gen X top 5

I thought the point was songs that people could shout/sing along to in public. So as a GenXer (and Nats fan), I nominate Take On Me.

Chorus, yes. Verses, no.

Song 2
Pour Some Sugar on Me

Sweet Child O' Mine and Living on a Prayer, already mentioned, are excellent Gen X submissions.

- Class of 1997

Fellow member of the class of 1997,

I must regretfully add Chumbawumba, “I get knocked down,” to the list. I know we both turned the volume up and rolled the windows down and would probably do the same today.

In solidarity and regret,

Your classmate

That song title is actually “Tubthumping”

Really.

Hmmm I think millennials would probably know a lot of words to hit me baby one more time, that Avril song “he was a boy, she was a girl”, umbrella by Rihanna?

High school class of ‘94? Same here, and most of those songs in your list are not really of our generation. Except for Jump and Teen Spirit, maybe Pump up the Jam.

My class of ‘94 list would include:
- Gin & Juice (Snoop Dog)
- End of the Road (Boyz II Men)
- These are the Days (10,000 Maniacs)
- Loser (Beck)
- Today (Smashing Pumpkins)

It drives me nuts that people always go on and on about Nirvana being the "voice of Gen X" (one of the reasons I never felt like I fully fit into Gen X and why I was not at all surprised when demographers decided there is actually that microgeneration of x-ennials that I fall into)

But if we're going by that marker, then it likely IS Smells Like Teen Spirit

I prefer Weird Als parody

Yay a fellow xennial! I feel the exact same way as you. Gen x? Can’t related to. Gen X = my older cousins and my friends much older siblings.

Never liked nirvana then, not a fan now
