The PP with a child who received an acceptance is not 1st gen. |
4.36 GPA |
I know someone who didn't get in! |
13:16, you are my hero. |
How is that possible? I know students without the advertised GMU GPA minimum who were admitted. |
So you're ok with different application procedures for different groups of people? Or do you complain about athlete and legacy admits? |
I'm 100% ok with different application procedures for different groups of people. I've never complained about athlete or legacy admits. More importantly, I'm 100% ok with colleges choosing the admissions procedures that are legal and work for them. |
Many institutions are predicting very low enrollments over the next 10-20 years. Fewer children, fewer people who can afford the high price of tuition and fewer people born and raised within a 50 mile radius of their schools who can actually attend and invest back into the community.
This is a very smart move and many state schools have implemented some form of guaranteed admission at a fixed price. I predict in 20-30 years, higher ed will drastically change. Schools won't be as competitive. They will spend more time recruiting non-traditional students and non-traditional career pathways. Families today are not seeing the same bang for their bucks in terms of college costs and years of student loan debt. I've posted on here before that a 3.1 gpa gets you into GMU. Niw it's just public info. Not a big deal. Just trying to drum up excitement like VCU did. |
This is not a general admissions policy, like the direct admits at VCU and Radford. These seem very targeted to specific populations. ACPS is heavily minority and does not have a high rate of college attendance. Great for GMU, but they don’t have a policy yet for all students-just targeted populations. |
You would be surprised how many applications are rejected for “technical” reasons…school never sent the transcript, kid just didn’t complete some part of the application, etc. That and unforced errors…forgot to replace VCU with GMU. |
It is for all students in ACPS. They have targeted schools. |
Did they do EIP? |
They say it’s a pilot program. So they may expand to more schools/districts over time.
In the mean time, move to ACPS if you want to skip the essays. |
Getting in auto admit > Getting in with essays, recs, etc... So there is excitement about not having to do a heavy lift. |
