She would have to tryout but the U of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM) is excellent and a Broadway + other top venues feeder. |
Yes 2023 HS grad from a private in MD. |
St. Mary’s traded its dance major for a performing arts major with watered down dance offerings. Not a good option for DD unfortunately. She liked the school otherwise, though it’s a bit small. |
Consider University of Richmond? They have a robust Dance Major and program. |
https://www.middlebury.edu/student-financial-services/types-aid All aid from Middlebury is awarded based on financial need. Middlebury does not provide merit aid. |
It’s difficult to find a college that has a sufficiently good dance program and good academics. As a former dancer I would suggest focus on the best academic program that’s in a city where your DD can take professional level classes on her own off campus |
My friend who was a dancer enjoyed her time at Hobart & Smith. |
Yes, don’t rule out Utah. I’m on the west coast and dancers with your daughter’s profile from my child’s school and studio go to Utah every year. SMU is another one that she should not take off the list. I think dance is an area where you really should focus on getting acceptances first and deciding based on geography second. |
But with her stats she could do much better. |
Just to clarify - MD is below the Mason Dixon |
But it sounds like she doesn’t want urban |
There are 3 schools (2 already mentioned) that have relationships with dance schools in the mid Atlantic
Dickinson and cpyb https://www.dickinson.edu/homepage/453/cpyb_curriculum Rider and arb https://arballet.org/ West Chester (dance minor at school) and Brandywine Ballet certificate program https://www.brandywineballet.org/wcu-certificate-in-ballet |
I don’t think this student is looking for a college conservatory and/or BFA program. Those leave very little time for academics outside of dance.
|
They have a BA program between the BFA and minor |
Elon is very popular on the Dance Parents FB page. Several students from the DMV have gone there and are successfully double majoring. |
