Yup, and all minimum wage workers deserve to be paid more. I’m not a politician and have no way the make that happen but the least I can do is leave a decent tip for the minimum wage workers I engage with daily. Note: When adjusted for inflation, the 2023 federal minimum wage in the United States is around 40 percent lower than the minimum wage in 1970. |
Do you also tip the people cleaning the hotel restaurants you dine in? Do you tip the dishwashers? Do you tip the lifeguards at the pool? They’re all working their asses off too. |
For those of you who leave cash in the room daily for housekeepers, do they always take it?
It seems like housekeeping would be trained not to touch cash that’s lying around in the room. Unless they know for sure it’s for them - like it’s in a marked envelope - I would imagine cash goes untouched? |
Fewer than 30% of hotel guests in the United States leave any tip for housekeepers, and that was a NYT survey taken *before* most hotels stopped daily housekeeping.
So I’d guess the figure is about 15% now. |
It's always gone. |
Where do you put it? Do you leave a note? |
Either in the bedside table or on the desk/table. No note. They understand and take it. |
+1 Do you tip your Amazon delivery driver? What about the cashier at the grocery store? Or the attendant at the toll booth? Do you tip the janitors at your kids' schools? What about the people who clean your office building at night? Or the cooks at McDonald's? Do you tip the usher at the theater/arena? Do you tip the desk clerk at the motel? Or the security guard at the parking garage? Do you leave a tip for the cleaners when you stay in a VRBO? If you think it is disgusting that people do not tip hotel housekeepers because they "are working their asses off," then you need to up your tipping game too. |
I always leave a note with the cash. |
Tips are for people who can mess with your stuff. That includes housekeeping. |
I just stayed at a Hyatt house that had this option. It was really convenient |
You don’t have a working class background, do you? Don’t you know that the “exhoribant fees” go to multi-million dollar bonuses and perks for the executive team, and for stock buy-backs? |
Really? What a shame. |
I write “Gracias” on the little notepads and leave the cash on top. |
+1. "For Housekeeping" If I need extra towels or other items, I also ask for them in the note. I put the note by the sink or on the dresser. |
