False.

How about “every high performing HS does it”?

Nope my very poor HS did this in the 2000s.

+1 it's not required, just like you don't have to put on IG where you are going. Just don't participate.

Your kid will have to learn to deal with life's disappointments.

This was an issue 3 years ago for us too. We were at Whitman and it’s especially worse there in my opinion. I hear many kids go to UMD from wootton and WJ but not whitman. The issue is whitman families are richer and so going out of state to Michigan or an 80k/year private school is the norm. You do feel stressed and out of place for not choosing an out of state college or a private expensive elite one. But it will pass.

Seriously. I agree with this.

Sounds like you are the problem, not the school. What's wrong with UMD?

Horrible message to send your child.

Same as the stupid Instagram posts. Very exclusive practices.

Oh for heaven's sakes grow up. Can't you be happy for people?

Dumb place sent out a notification for kids to wear their college sweatshirt to school on May 1st.

What is this? So kids can brag more about the swanky, expensive colleges they got into and make others feel badly who were waitlisted or had to take second choice? Yuck. I know I know - we bought here thinking it was a "good" School.. NO! A school of pushy, rude parents who only look out for number one. Themselves and their kids. It's awful.

What about a kid who may have to go to Montgomery College? What if someone isn't going to college? What if someone comes from low income housing and cannot afford college? What if What if What if?? Not bad in and of itself but geez. My kid is likely going to UMD and has already received a number of snarky comments. On waitlist that won't get off of while kid x, y, z parades in and out with a Michigan sweatshirt daily.

Why does this idiot school allow this? What is wrong with these people? Isn't the instagram they are exposed to daily bad enough???

Stop the madness. It's cruel to some of these kids who are not thrilled with college decision.

MC has good swag. I've seen kids wear it, post on IG that they are attending MC, and otherwise own their choices. I've taught girls who could get accepted at elite colleges, but their parents aren't about to let them live somewhere other than home, so they attend MC. If you haven't looked at the MC --> USG pipeline into some very lucrative jobs in high demand careers right here in Montgomery County, you are missing opportunities.

Get over yourself OP.

I went to a top tier but never was into those lame HS spirit days. This college shirt thing is definitely an excuse to blow your own horn which is absolutely vulgar.

Just ignore that spirit day and wear normal clothes. Or pajamas. Whatever makes your kid happy. And don’t be ashamed or embarrassed by where they go to school. Don’t buy into the illusion of hierarchy.

Read what the parents on the college board post regularly. Don't be them, OP.

You can’t be serious. Scores of kids go to UMD from Whitman and are thrilled to have that option.

Eh. My kid and his group just wouldn't participate. They all think it's cringey.

You are rich if you live in that district. Be real.
