| We eat rice twice a week - usually I make brown rice in the rice cooker, sometimes white basmati rice. I serve it with chili, stir-fry, or chicken cacciatore. |
I'm Indian vegetarian but I try not to serve rice as the carb everyday. We will rotate among rice, millet, cracked wheat, etc. |
| I'm amazed that people eat rice so infrequently. We go through a ton of it. Eat rice nearly every day, though at least 4x per week. I'll either make Mex red rice or plain white with salt/garlic. |
| I’m Brazilian and eat rice almost everyday. DH and kids eat it occasionally. |
| Biracial Asian family here. We eat about as much rice as we do pasta. Cook the rice in the rice cooker after rinsing, and it’s usually jasmine rice, though we also have basmati and brown short grain Japanese rice as well. |
| Non Asian, about 3x week. A rice cooker was one the best purchases I ever made - thanks to DCUM for the recommendation! |
Same! |
More power to your mom! Sounds great. |
| I've never really understood the differences between different types of rice. Is one healthier for you? Do the different types each taste better with different kinds of foods? |
I like different rices, but don’t want to keep several varieties around in my pantry that aren’t going to get used much. So I pretty much just buy brown basmati |
|
Black rice every day.

We are white Midwesterners living on the East coast for 35 years. We eat rice ~ 3X/week, mainly with various chicken dishes. When just roast chicken, then I add kimchi to my serving. When I make a dish with sauce, then I add that to the rice.
If just me eating, I would probably mix it up with some of the other grains suggested here (e.g., Israeli couscous, quinoa, etc) but DH prefers plain brown or white rice so I go with the least complicated set up. |
A friend who is Asian got me a rice cooker for my BD years ago and I just love it. |
