Where is all of your evidence for this declined standing? All it sounds like to me is a bunch of sour mango lassi.

All it sounds like to me is that you’re a racist. “Sour mango lassi,” really?

So discrimination against Asians is cool because otherwise we're just ushering in Mussolini? Get a grip.

DP but get a grip. There is no discrimination against Asians when it comes to admission to TJ. Asians make up 20% of the students body in FCPS but take up to 70% of the seats at TJ.

Jews make up 2% of the population and 22-24% of the Ivy schools - some 11 times the size of the population. Complain about that before complaining of Asians.

PP isn't complaining about it; PP is illustrating why a court will not see a valid legal claim of disparate impact discrimination against a minority population that holds a majority of seats. There are two ways to prove discrimination, one of which is disparate impact. Disparate impact is proved by statistics and this case doesn't have numbers on its side, which was PP's point.

And if suddenly a single school was admitting them at only the rate of 15% of its student body I would think the same thing - that alleging discrimination doesn’t feel like strong ground to stand on when the admittance level is still so high.

And everyone expects it to continue to go back up close to its prior percentage level.

The new system is still gameable with moving and/or fraudulently filling out the free meals form being the two easiest ways to gain admittance.

It needs to be changed to either a lottery or an open enrollment academy model.

Oh no! The meals question was a stroke of genius. They were able to verify and catch many of the cheaters which helped detoxify TJ.

Did you not hear about the massive loophole?

As long as the family submits that their child is eligible using the online free and reduced price meals form, their child will get the bonus points.

FCPS does not verify income if you fill out the form in their website. It’s completely based on trust and there are absolutely parents who have and will continue to abuse this trust.

Not sure where you got this nonsense from but that's not true at all. They required documentation from those who claimed this and those who were unable to provide it were kicked from the program.

No documentation is required if the FARMS forms are filed with the child’s middle school.

And the FARMS forms do not require documentation.

This is terrible.

Not sure why you keep promoting this falsehood but documentation was required and those who failed to provide it were kicked from the program.

Only documentation required is the fact that you applied for farms program. Major screwup.

Last year the school required parents submit proof that they were FARMs eligible. Kids who could not lost the points associated with that question. The kids whose point total dropped were compared to their peers and some had their invitations pulled. It was not an automatic “You lost the points, you are gone” thing but the kids who dropped below the point total for being accepted were removed.

I would think twice about checking that you are a FARMs family if you are not because they did check and kids did lose their spot if they could not prove they were a FARMs family.

Exactly!

Now do disparate treatment (discriminatory intent).

Also, in considering disparate impact, some would look at who was affected the most by the change, which is another statistic, and not just at whether a particular group remains “over-represented.”

The intent was to level the playing field after there had been widespread cheating (e.g. people buying test answers).

The intent was to reduce the percentage of Asian kids and increase the percentage of non-Asian kids living in three magisterial districts - Lee (now Franconia), Mason, and Mount Vernon - who couldn't get into TJ on merit.

Stated in a legal non-discriminatory way: The goal was to provide for representation at TJ for all FCPS middle schools and thus serving all county tax districts and students overcoming financial or ESL challenges that have traditionally served as a bar to entry and a denial of this important population of FCPS student body the enhances the overall learning experience.

Yes, but many parents are upset they can no longer buy their kid's way into TJ since now it's based on actual merit as opposed to a test to which they purchased the answers.

The process was broken before but it certainly isn’t based on “merit” now.

Sure it is, unless you're one of the nutjobs who narrowly construes merit to mean "performance on a standardized test".

Yes, merit as it relates to standardized test performance for a test you purchased advanced access to...

Due to COVID there was a way around the documentation requirement for people that really wanted to cheat.

No documentation is required. If a parent is willing to lie, they can get the FARMS bonus got their child in the TJ admissions.

Will this be the case for this year's admissions, now that free lunch for all is gone?

The process was broken before but it certainly isn’t based on “merit” now.

The whole strategy in 2020 was to sell people on the notion that FCPS was "redefining merit," because that sounded better than "reducing rigor in favor of geographic parity" or "putting the Asians in their place."

It hasn't quite taken yet, but you can keep trying to sell it.

The TJ lawsuit folks should keep getting continuances until the Supreme Court overturned affirmative action at which point their lawsuit will have a better chance.

Wow, those are some pretty thick blinders you've got on. GPA, ongoing demonstrated interest in relevant topics, aptitude/talent shown in the day-to-day classroom, capability relative to peers in the same school environment, creative/flexible thinking, ability to apply existing knowledge to new topics, resiliency/ability to independently overcome new challenges, ability to communicate complex ideas concisely, how quickly they pick up new concepts, self-motivation, on and on... all things that standardized tests are generally fairly poor at measuring (unless you wanted to develop tests specifically.
