I think they are more known now and I haven’t been in a couple years, but loved the Thai place on the west side of Connecticut Ave couple doors down from Medium Rare. Also the Dominican place run by twin brothers behind Target in Columbia Heights. The French bakery (Caprice?) a couple streets north of the adoninical place had good croissants.

YES. Los Hermano's. True home cooking, and the best comfort food.

It’s not visible from outside, you need to go inside an unmarked door to find it, and it’s as bare bones as you can be and still be a functioning restaurant. I’ve never eaten anything less than amazing there and while it is vegan, you in no way need to be vegan to enjoy it.

Oh gawd. Vegan?? Yuck.

A big portion of lots of food traditions happen to be vegan. It’s not the American fake meat factory veganism.

About 15 years ago there was a phenomenal HITW Italian place near the Bowie Walmart. There was never anyone there and then of course it went out of business making me really sad. They had the best eggplant parm and the best fettuccini bolognese. (I’m pretty picky about Italian.).
So spread the word about your favorite HITW before it’s gone!
