My hot take - climate change is about to hit in a major way!

Things always tend to work out.

That's fascinating.

It is and would be fascinating if it happens. I believe in climate change but after living through covid, I’m very skeptical of what the experts say on addressing climate change. If our experts couldn’t even figure out and be transparent about something as simple as mask wearing, then how can they lead us to fight climate change? Similar to COVID, many suggestions don’t really fight climate change.

Things always tend to work out? WTF?

Tell that to the American Bison or Wooly Mammoth for that matter. Or the Anasazi.

The whole trying to curb climate change is moronic. First of all, we just can't. It's likely too late and if it isn't, our lifestyles make it impossible. NO WAY any of us gives up our creature comforts and conveniences. No way. Rich, poor, it's human nature to life as well as we can and that involves polluting the earth. Lawns, transportation, electricity, food, we just don't live like we used to and there's too many people around that the earth will suffer. I wish we would instead put all the money and energy into figuring how to live assuming that we only have 5-10 years globally to be outside 100% of the year. I wish we would take the energy of trying to pass legislation in this country into partnering with the brightest minds globally on how to save us all. We have to assume that we are all dead more or less with enough time so why not accept the inevitable and work on solutions to mitigate/adapt?

While it's true that perhaps we don't end up roasting but freezing, we still have to account for future generations surviving outdoors.

People need to accept we're not going to make it to 2030 or 2100. We will hopefully make it to 2025 before the kids stop going out to play outdoors in July here. The temps are so hot, the humidity is so thick, can't even breath on some days! Floods, storms, temperatures, I really don't think it's going to be another 50 years. I say 5-10, we are all globally in the same boat.

This thread is hilarious.

It’s that no matter what we do, it won’t slow down climate change.

What about housing construction on oceanfront property? How bad is that?

Well said.

Has anyone noticed that there's a LOT of "this is a false alarm" propaganda being put out at an increasing rate, while warnings are increasingly minimized? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but wow.

Paleo-Americans eliminated them wooly mammoth through over-hunting. Settlers nearly did the same to the bison. The Anasazi had a variety of things stacked against them, but ultimately their own immune systems were what failed them.

This is happening. I can’t believe people still think this is made up.

This type of heat wave isn’t normal.

And hurricane season is forecast to be a record breaker (people will die and billions in damage done).

We need action on climate justice RIGHT NOW!

I saw on the teevee that eating bugs will make the weather stop, so we have that going for us.

Climate change is something we've been aware of for decades and researching for longer than that.

COVID 19 was new, we'd never studied it, and we had a President who was against a good, cohesive government policy. It's a very different situation.

Hey Al Gore, how's Tipper doing these days?

My hot take is that anyone that has been on an airplane in the last 10 years, owns a car with an internal combustion engine, or lives in a house with spare rooms is not serious about fixing climate change and wants everyone else to "do something" instead.

I think anyone who doesn't fully embrace and support a rapid expansion of nuclear powered electricity generation is not serious about climate change. If we do that, you can charge your electric cars with it, along with everything else. The airlines will just be a relative blip at that point.

If you're going to come back at me about "but what about the long term storage issue???" you're not serious.

Definitely against nuclear power plants but agree we need to come up with better options. Battery operated power plants seem like a much greener and safer alternative for making electricity than nuclear plants. But nuclear is a complete non-starter.
