“Striver” is reserved for those who try too hard to be a part of the “privileged” group when it would be less unseemly to succeed on their work and merit and really not care about prestige. It’s one of those things you can smell from a mile away, and you know it when you see it. It’s triggering to you because it calls out your deep seated insecurities. |
+1. Great school; great price for in-state. It was a true life-changer for my kid. Much of that was due to the fantastic faculty who helped him with internships and letters of recommendation. |
What schools on DCUM get the most hate? This is an easy answer: Any school that rejected a poster or poster’s child. |
What a dumb phrase. All parents are striving to find the right fit and best education for their kids. All students want that. All colleges and universities want to provide this. |
Strivery is not a word. |
*any school ^^ |

These striver posts are like the new version of the new money/old money angsty posts. |
Well then by your definition you positively reek of striver. |
NYU, UChicago and UVA.
Rarely a negative word: MIT and Wisconsin |
Burrrrrrnnnnnn. +1000. |
Wisconsin and Notre Dame are two schools that get a lot of deserved grief when their alumni try to pass them off as having among the most attractive campuses (sorry, but no), but the schools, student bodies, or academics at those schools don't get attacked like other those at other places. |
m LOL. Talk about pathetic. Yeah, I’m talking about you for being so invested in caring about schools you have nothing to do with. |
What! Harvard is the UVA of the North 😉 |
Nonsense! Harvard is the McGill of the South ![]() |
