Exactly. This show was definitely not real life but it strived to make the characters somewhat “real”. Not everyone is model attractive and those women weren’t pretending to be models.

I was going to mention the JFK connection too. My husband and I have had discussions about SJP before because he think she’s absolutely hideous while I would have given my right arm to look like her back in the day. All of most popular girls in HS and post college had a SJP thing about them. And, I agree with the other posters who mentioned the Jewish New Yorker ideal. Both my husband and I are Jewish btw… he prefers the softer, dark and curly haired rounder type with bigger boobs. Guess that’s how I landed him

I think SJP is a rotten person who is probably a lot like Carrie. But I do love how angry she makes men. Just the mention of her sends so many of them into a rage. Pretty much every man I know thinks she’s hideous, and they’re actually offended that she’s successful. So for that I love her. But honestly I think she’s a shady woman, and I believe every word Catrall says about her. The rest say what they need to to keep her claws off of them and to keep the money coming.

Where are you finding all these men with such strong opinions about Sarah Jessica Parker?

No man has ever flown into a rage over SJP.

Oh yeah they have. I’ve hung up on men ranting about how ugly she is and how it’s disgusting that she has a career. Trust me, it’s a thing.

These are not normal men. Where do you find these freaks?

Her body was sick when the show aired - thin, but not emaciated with nice breasts. Plus she had a gorgeous head of hair and didn’t take herself too seriously. I don’t know the dating scene in NYC but you all really don’t think she’d turn heads in DC?

No. There's still of her in Daily Mail today from the episode of her 35th birthday dinner on the show. She looks like a weathered 50 year old mum in New Jersey, not 35. She has always been ugly and insufferable. Samantha, Mr Big, and Charlotte made the show.

don't any of you know a woman like her who may be about average in terms of looks, but presents themselves well, is very fit and has that "it" factor? There are plenty of women like that, and the ones I know have dated and married attractive men.

She looks Jewish. Is she Jewish

She was the quintessential famous "butter [but her] face." Great body aside from the horse face. Did that "butter face" term pre-date the show or is that where it came from?

She would be a 10 in dc though. That’s the sad thing

To be honest, Chris Noth is also averagely attractive in much the same way, so they were probably a good fit as a TV couple.

+1. I don’t know about sjp, but Carrie was clever, educated and classically beautiful with hair and bod and style and confidence. End of thread.

She was skinny and had a boundless fashion and makeup/hair team. The "it" wasn't her, it was the eye-catching fashion and the way the show was shot. In normal clothes she always looked hideous/invisible/basic.

What did she look like pre-boob job and pre-rhinoplasty?

Her body is too sinewy.
A “butterface” is someone like Chrissy Tiegan.

I think she’s gorgeous even now but she had a great look in the 90s. I’d kill to have her body, hair, and complexion. I’ve never even seen the show but clearly her looks didn’t get in the way of its success.

She knows what she looks like. She could have had a nose job if she wanted, so I’m assuming she’s okay with her face.

If she worked at my office, I’d say she has a hot body and ugly face. I had a college roommate who looked like that and guys flocked to her. I think it was the combination of being cute enough for them to want to have sex with her and ugly enough to make her easily approachable. It was just dating, never a long term relationships.. She was also very sexually open, so that probably helped tip the scales, but the lesson here is to not underestimate the approachability factor.

She ended up marrying a guy who was a similar level of attractiveness as her.

My DH thinks she's pretty for a white lady. And doesn't go into a rage about her. He watched SATC with me on the regular and enjoyed it.

I get told I look like SJP *all* the time and I never had any problems dating. Many, many men have thought I was beautiful and I had many offers from wealthy, attractive men.

Not saying I’m the hottest woman ever, believe me, no one picks apart my own appearance more than I do. But not all men are looking for a Megan Fox or Kim K.
