Brandon Todd just seems like more of the same old in DC politics.
http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/looselips/2015/02/19/leading-ward-4-candidate-filed-for-bankruptcy-in-2005-over-debts-to-j-crew-nordstrom-others/ Is there any movement around another candidate? I'd be happy to donate to a campaign if it's not an obvious waste of money. |

Tolliver.

I also like Tolliver and think he's got a level head and common sense going for him.
And after the Fenty-Bowser years, we need some change in Ward 4. |
| I know Dwayne and agree that he is bright and has a record of service. The same is true of several others, such as Doug Sloan. Personally, I lean toward Renee Bowser, whom I supported in the last Ward 4 special election (which an unrelated Bowser won); I think she would be especially good on labor, affordable housing, and similar issues. I have also heard good things about Pedro Rubio, especially on education. |
| I met Brandon Todd and could not believe how much of an empty suit he was. I'll look at Tolliver and Sloan. Much stronger candidates. |
| This reminds me a lot of Kwame Brown and Michael Brown. They liked to live large, spend way above their means on luxury goods and got into major debt problems. Next thing you know, they were both into illegal schemes to "solve" their spending habits. The DC council has some good members, but it's attracted far more than its share oF low life's and scammers. Is this someone who should be entrusted with DC's budget and our children's future? Sadly, there are too many voters in DC who are not turned off by such issues. |
+1 for Pedro Rubio. He's been active in a bunch of neighborhood / education groups for a while now. Not just talk and promise like some other politicians. I met Doug Sloan once and he made a very bad impression very quickly. |
|
I was the first Tolliver poster. I like the other candidates mentioned as well, but I think he has the best chance of actually winning based on his network in the ward and real world experience. Sloan is a very close second.
|
Brandon Todd is going to win although he is clearly an idiot. He is raising a ton of money and people feel like if they don't support him, Muriel will retaliate. |
|
There are now an even dozen candidates. Bruce Morrison never got the signatures, and Pedro Rubio withdrew today. I don't know the story behind the withdrawal, since he was onward4candidatee of the more credible candidates.
I've been spending a fair amount of time on Drew Schneider's website (http://www.ward4candidatesinfo.com/), reading candidates' answers to a slew of questions, and at this point, I think Renee Bowser and Dwayne Tolliver are the most impressive, although Anderson, Andrews, and Powell also seem knowledgeable. I have not mentioned Brandon, since it looks like he wrote his answers on his way to bed after a long hard day of campaigning. |
| Sorry about an errant cut-and-past that turned "one" into "onward4candidatee" in my post of a minute or two ago. |
I think Renee is putting up a good effort this time around. I hope a few more will drop out so that she will have a fighting chance. |

Renee Bowser has received the endorsement of DC Women in Politics, along with Natalie Williams in Ward 8. One did not have to be a woman to be a voting member of the audiences at their candidate forums, but only women candidates were invited to take part.
As a practical matter, their endorsement may be overshadowed by the DCBOEE giving first place on the ballot to Brandon Todd and putting Renee in position six, after Pedro Rubio, although I assume Rubio withdrew in time for his name to be dropped from the ballot. In Ward 8, the Mayor's pick, LaRuby May, will be second on the ballot, behind Greta Fuller. Natalie Williams is in fourth. The full lists are here: https://www.dcboee.org/popup.asp?url=/pdf_files/nr_1684.pdf. |

Special elections normally only attract diehard voters and I assume most of them will be informed. But, if there is any significant uniformed anti-Muriel Bowser vote, I wonder if Renee Bowser will be hurt more than Todd? I feel like Renee is the only opponent to Todd who is getting any traction. But, I almost wish she had a different name.

I kind of like the name Renee.
