Has Anyone Been Accepted to NCRC and St Columba's?

Anonymous
I am wondering whether anyone has been accepted (including previous years) to both NCRC and St. Columba's for special needs. Or is it true that the schools communicate with each other and don't admit the same child?

I've been wondering the same thing since that person posted the other day about them colluding on their SN admissions decisions. And the more I think about it, the more I realize I do not know a single family where they were accepted both places. Could be that no one gets into both, or could be I'm hanging out with the wrong crowd

Is collusion possible? Or legal? Is there really no expectation of confidentiality on these applications? I am POSITIVE that the sharing of private health information is illegal as per HIPAA laws and anyone engaging in it can be fined in the tens of thousands of dollars PER INCIDENT.

Hmmm...I'm not sure about this. I do feel that both schools have the kids' best interests at heart, so I'm not too concerned about it. We are recent transplants from another state that does not have schools like these, so I am so grateful for both of them.

We had playdates at both as well - we were waitlisted at St Columba's and still waiting to hear from NCRC. Of course we're on pins & needles, totally anxious.

Anyone else in this situation? Our ds has SPD and could really benefit from both programs.

We're still waiting to hear from NCRC, with baited breath. We didn't get into St. Columba's. What is SPD, by the way?

Sensory Processing Disorder, otherwise known as Sensory Integration Dysfunction

We got into St. Columba's, which we feel extremely fortunate about, and are still waiting to hear from NCRC. Best of luck to everyone.

14:42, were you admitted to the 3 year old class, or the 4 year old? Thanks for sharing if you don't mind (I'm the PP with the sensory child)

I'm the 14:42 poster...we were admitted to the three year old class.

thanks - we had applied to the 4 year old class and were told they didn't have any spaces for additional special needs kids. It occurred to me that would have had better luck applying last year, when he was 3, but ironically, we didn't know then that he had sensory processing disorder. Congrats on getting your space, and best wishes.

We applied to 4 yr old class too, and Elisse told us the exact same thing. Sigh. We really loved it too.

If it makes you feel any better, we applied this year for the 3 year old class, and Elisse said they weren't able to accept many kids with Special Needs for that class (we were not accepted; I wrote above). She said 3 or 4 students from this year's 3 yo class are staying behind, and they're able to accept fewer and fewer SN kids every year b/c each year at least one kid everyone thought was developing normally ends up having special needs. I think it's just very difficult to get in as an SN candidate there (it's probably just generally hard to get in there, b/c there are so many more applicants than spots). I totally understand (and share) your frustration.

I'm the PP whose child got accepted to St. Columba's for the threes...waitlisted at NCRC today. We are going to withdraw our names from the waiting pool. Good luck to everyone.
