I have heard some disturbing things from my DC and have also noticed some really awful behavior from 2 of the aides (one who rotates, one who doesnt). Screaming at kids, shaming them, snapping at them for not standing perfectly in a straight quiet developmentally inappropriate line, pushing/slamming kids into chairs, grabbing kids very hard...it makes me feel sick to my stomach. What can be done? why do the classroom teachers allow this to happen--is it just that they want someone else doing their dirty work?

Talk to the Principal immediately |
Do you think that would help? several friends of mine brought it to Ms Main's attention over the past few years... |
Op, this is not the forum for teacher/admin bashing. You are getting into dangerous territory 'reporting' corporal punishment on an online forum. Be a proactive adult and speak to the school. And please wise up about trashing folks (even if you don't use their names). It's dumb. |
It's been a problem and complaint for many, for years. Nothing changed while the last principal was there. The current principal will at least listen to you and have a defendable reason for action/inaction. Lynn Main would have dutifully listened to your complaint, maybe acknowledged the issue, and then do nothing.
Many have asked the same questions and made the same points you did. And nothing ever changed. |
This. Come on, OP, have some sense. |
There are two that my child complains about. One has since been reassigned after parent complaint and one (that I've witnessed while volunteering) is still there. If my child was in that aide's class, I would more proactively complain. |
If someone is physically assaulting 4 year olds at lafayette someone should call 911. I don't care if you're kid isn't in the class. It is your duty to say something. |
You need to call child protective services if this is true, not complain on DCUM. |
The worst I have ever witnessed has been verbal. If you do decide to go to the principal I wouldn't mention at all what your DC has told you and only report what you have seen. Good luck, many of us are hopeful the new principal will actually do something about it and if it's really true one has already been reassigned that is a great step in the right direction. |
I'm 12:55 and have also never witnessed anything physical (nor has my child complained of anything beyond a lot of yelling/harsh language). If I did see anything physical, I'd go to the principal immediately. |
They make the same as someone who works at McDonald's. Maybe it's time for a career change. |
They probably eat at McDonalds too...the horror! |
Wow- hope you all are not reprsetative of Lafayette parents. You all are nasty gossip mongers. And way to make fun/think less of people who are paid 'like McDonald's' staff. |
Lafayette Pre-K parent here. Yes, it's true that one has been reassigned. I wish she were fired and not just shifted to an older grade, but apparently she has tenure. I still think verbal abuse should be a fireable offense. At least one other aide who is a yeller is still in place and I hope more changes are made. I've complained to the principal about the yelling I've seen. I hope other parents do the same so that something will change. I have hope it will with the new principal. |
