Right. Because this is actually not at all about grade. It's just a shift of birthday cutoffs. It could have been defined by school grade but it isn't. It's defined by a time period that doesn't align to school grade cutoffs. |
You can't even read your own rubbish properly - the decision to allow a player to play up is ultimately based on technical criteria - |
But then why does it say.... School grade may be considered as part of the evaluation |
And why did Arlington add this specific wording and call out for young Aug/Sept players to their FAQ last night? |
This is because if a player wants to play in College they need to be with thier grade even if its with a second or third team. If the players doesnt want to ball in college they can play down but it prolly will not be at the expense of a kid playing at grade on a first team. They will find themselves at a smaller club and not in the ECNL world. |
Thank you! Exactly correct. 🙌 |

It would have saved you effort to group the last 4 posts into one instead of constantly parroting yourself. Stats show odds increase on chances to play in college if you are the oldest in the age group and least if you are the youngest. Clubs make these decisions and they pick age with the best of the best getting an opportunity to play up. You should stop giving advise. |
If an age group first-teamer can't keep up with an Aug/Sept kid (regardless of grade), guess what? They aren't recruitable! These Aug/Sept aren't taking a spot if they're not good enough to play up. They are playing exactly where they should based on age and ability. Maybe after a year, they'll join the higher team, maybe not. Great that grade isn't a magic ticket to play up. |
Now make sure you explain to other parents how playing down a grade in club soccer screws over players looking to play in college by making them unrecruitable for college coaches. Our club had a meeting about BY -> SY with the team managers and they tried to explain how things would go. Multiple team managers asked the same questions about playing down and rcollege ecruitment. The club didnt have an answer but said they would get back to the team managers about it shortly. They never did. So be careful with your kids. I don't believe clubs are intentionally looking to screw players over. I just dont think they've thought through all the repercussions that playing on a grade down team involves. |
Stop giving advice? Thats rich comming from the guy that wants GY Showcases and thinks screwing over players so they're unrecruitable by college coaches are both good things. |
If they follow your advice, they might also lose out because they're now the youngest in the age group. |
It's a fair question and grade should be a factor BUT not THE factor. Arlington has it right. Grade shouldn't be a magic ticket to play up. |
Thats why you play on the B team with players your grade. You'll get more touches and opportunities to play different positions. Once you get to u14/u15 for girls RAE doesnt matter anymore and the oldest players in the groupings start fading out. |
The opposite of that statement is that Age shouldn't be a magic ticket for playing on a grade down A team. |
