We've got it and nobody said that wasn't an issue or bad. The person is arguing against points that have never been made. |
Great, glad you and I are on the same page. If you read back through the thread, that's not everyone. So we can't say "nobody" , but at least you and I are. That's good news. |
Oh good god. I’m glad the kid sits and probably more should too. Ideally more coaches do this so kids quit the game. There, I said what you only hear. What are you going to do about it? |
You certainly don't know how to let go if there is a point of agreement. We are agreeing that the practice is wrong, and that bothers you so much you need this level of sarcasm? Odd. If people agree, that is supposed to be a good thing. |

| I realize this is an old thread. If anyone is still reading, what would expectations be in terms of subbing into B teams from the A team? If some players played every game on both teams for example, is that reasonable in U13? It may not be “fair” to B team players or to others on A team, but is it reasonable? |
B team player will not get time and will be used as a reserve. A team players are treated is a different way vs B team. |
I don't think it's reasonable personally unless the B team is short on players or a specific position like goalie. I think every child should play at least half a game until at least U14 or probably in all youth soccer except for the very top teams. I'm only familiar with 3-4 clubs around here due to DD having friends in some of them and only one does this regularly and the kids and parents HATE it. The development director who is new has been called out by it I heard and for not giving players very unequal playing time at the young ages. So I think it's not common practice, not unheard of though, and does not make for happy customers. |
On our club, A team players are often reserves for B team games, the bulk of playing time goes to players on that team. |
| Our club regularly brings up 2 u14 players from the B team to play with the A team. They also occasionally bring down 2 or 3 A team players who dont get many minutes to play more with the B team. I know some of the B team parents of the lower end kids get annoyed because that pushes their kids to even less minutes. |
| Honestly I think that there ought to be frequent substitutions for all at young ages. The saddest thing is to see for me is 3 or 4 little kids, whether they are 7 or 10, huddling in cold rain with masks to play 5 minutes at the end of a half. It seems cruel, really. I know some parents may say, play Rec!! But Rec teaches kids essentially no soccer skills and I understand why some really want better coaches. |
Maybe it's a tactic to get the kids to work harder for their minutes. If they want more minutes, get better! |
I think those parents need to find another club- there are plenty around here that try for equal playing time with the little kids. |
| Most clubs overstack rosters because they can and it generates more revenue. Another $2-3k per kid. Who cares if they don't get the game development minutes, right? Players need game time. If your kid isn't getting it, you need to move. |
| Agree w above. And I have seen some posters say to talk to coach. I know from experience that some coaches are not ok with discussing with parents. Or even with kids sometimes. That is a red flag too. |
