Gifts for grown children of SIL?

Anonymous
My SIL's children are 21 and 19. Adults in the family do not exchange gifts. Do you think there is a point where the kids move to the adult category?
I will get them a gift -- usually a 40 dollar gift card. Next year I am thinking about transitioning them to a trinket stage? How do you handle?

Gifts stop at 18. Even that is old.
Post middle school it's enough.

Keep in mind that SIL will may stop giving gifts for your children. We stopped sending gifts as nieces and nephews graduated from HS. Once their children were grown, the parents stopped giving our children gifts, (who were 8 or so at the time). It wasn't a problem, but don't expect it.
