LED holiday lights

I know it's early but my preschooler is begging for decorations so we are going to at least buy some soon. Promise we won't put them up for another week or too!
This is the first year I will be able to have outside holiday lights. Since I don't have any I am planning to go with LEDs for the safety and energy savings. But I know nothing about them! I've never even used regular LED bulbs. So I need help. Does brand matter? I've seen variation in cost and I'm wondering why. Where is the best place to get them? Target? Home Depot? I'm not looking for anything fancy, but I would like for them to last for awhile. What should I look for? |

Are you sure you're not thinking of CFLs - compact fluorescents? |

| LED does not have mercury. CFLs do. I think the holiday LED quality has improved but see if you can plug them in in the site since some white ones are bluer rather than warm yellow. |

| I think with LED brand makes a difference. Look for a recognizeable brand name such as GE and not the no name store brand. LEDs don't due well in the cold as it is so quality lights are important which is why there is such a difference in price. |
