I am looking for recommendations for a dermatologist (or dermatlogy center) to do laser hair removal. This would be for a large area (i.e. legs). If you had it done:
Did it work? How many sessions did it take? What was the cost? Thanks! |
My husband did it for me during his plastic surgery residency. He did it twice on my legs. This was years ago. Now, the hair is fine. But it is still there. I am half asian so not that hairy. Before I would have to shave every couple of days. Now, every other week. If i had the treatment two more times, I think I would just have random fuzz. Have you researched it. The darker the hair and lighter the skin the better the results. The best results I have seen are with men with back hair.
good luck |
Had some treatments for my bikini area. I must have gone about 5 times but didn't finish b/c I moved to DC from NY. It really thinned out the hair and got rid of it completely in places making it possible to occasionally use nair or shave to get rid of what was left. The number of sessions depends on your skin, hair, etc. I can't remember the exact cost but it wasn't cheap. The only thing I can say is that now that I am pregnant and my hormones are all over the place the hair is growing in thicker. Don't know if this is temporary or not. |
Second poster...any recommendations where to get it from the good results you've seen? |
I'm not the second poster, but I've gone to Reveal MedSpa and had decent results. The thing to know with laser hair removal is that it's permanent hair *reduction* (not removal). So, in my case, the hair has decreased in amount and texture, but hasn't gone away completely. If you're self-conscious (like I am), you should decide whether it's worth the money. It can be very expensive, especially the new "pain-free" laser procedures. And just FYI, the pain-free laser is *tons* more comfortable than the "painful" laser, but personally, I can't yet tell if the results will be the same. |
Dr. Sunandrum in North Bethesda. |
I am the second poster. My husband does not do it, but he may know someone. You can call his office:

I had my thigh and bikini line done. It cost about $500/session for my thighs (can't remember what my bikini line cost) and I needed approximately 5 sessions so it wasn't cheap but I love the results. The hair on my thighs are gone, gone. However, for my bikini line, I would say it was significantly reduced but not completely gone. Then again, the bikini line hurt so much that I did not follow through with it.
I had it done at Zoe's Salon at the Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg. However, I'm told that they no longer do laser hair removal at that salon but that their salon at the Fair Oaks Mall does it. Overall, their service was good. |
I went here and was very pleased:

I had legs and bikini done at Reveal MedSpa (formerly Alase).
Best investment I ever made. I have practically no residual hair and have to shave maybe once a month -- pre-laser, I had to shave my legs daily. The "perfect" candidate for laser hair removal has fair skin with dark hairs, which is why it worked so well on me. Darker skinned people or those with fine, blonde hairs may have less success. |
