Can I put a china cabinet in the living room?

We are moving into a new house that has the kitchen and former dining room merged into a fabulous renovated kitchen. I love the dining room set we have in our current house (kind of a rustic cherry/antique black finish) and hate to get rid of it. The table will fit in the table space of the new house, but I'm afraid the china cabinet (really a credenza and hutch for glassware/crystal) will overpower the space, and I have a couple other smaller pieces I'd like to have in the table space. Do you think it's weird to put the china cabinet in the living room somewhere (in a corner). It definitely will fit and it matches the living room furniture in color/style.

I did this. It looks nice and I like it.

You can put anything wherever you'd like!

We have ours in the living room but use it as a bookcase. We keep our china in our side board and other built-in storage.

My grandmother did this, and it never looked weird to me.

I think it's fine.

Can you separate the hutch from the base? Mount the hutch have the base in the living room?

I keep my china cabinet in the living room. We use it as a bar cabinet and keep liquor and glassware in it.
