Its a ridiculious arguement Aug and youngers are an edge case. Playing with your grade would help out the player and be easier for clubs to manage.

It would be way more work for the club to manage with having to verify grade information (which is highly variable) vs a birth certificate. you are stunningly daft, or a bot.

Then let the club decide that. They can strongly encourage Aug-Sep-Oct kids to play with their grade OR not. Then parents can choose, too, for what's best for their kid.

Clubs will already decide to group by grade and not let players play down. What would really help is if a rule was implemented by the league saying that Aug and younger players must play on the team thats their grade in school. Then you wont have the edge case PINA parents hounding clubs to play down.

No, because then parents will start to want full GY. A July kid in the younger grade will want to be on the younger team. You know, for recruiting, and all.

As has been said multiple times.

Nobody wants GY but you.

No I'm team SY -- Aug-Jul.

I mean the soccer powers that be said you can play with your friends. What happens when those friends are born in Aug but happen to be in different grades? Seems like Aug-Jul works well in that scenario.

ECNL is starting a new league on the girls side.
There will still be a club based ECNL league.
Will also have a relegation ECNL league which will compete at the same showcases. If a club overall is doing well in the relegation league they will be able to move over all teams to compete with the higher level club platform competition, also if a club is doing poorly they can be moved down but still have the opportunity to compete at ECNL showcases without it dismantling their clubs player pool.

So basically
ECNL1 (Top)
ECNL2 (top team based model)
ECNL-RL (bottom team/club based model.

Interesting, but I think this is too complicated and what doomed the USYS efforts. And even then, I think you have to have promotion/relegation otherwise all the good players in ECNL2, RL in the end leave for ECNL1.

Sounds complicated. Also sounds like not having teams grouped by grade will cause issues especially when Pro/Relative comes into play.

Give me a break. You're getting your nose rubbed in reality and dont like it.

Seems like someone remains unhappy that no one liked it when this idea was framed as SY+30 or 60.

They changed the date from 9/1 to 8/1 wonder why?
You can play up but can't play down and it worked before. Not a mystery.

But what does play up and play down mean?

Are you talking about grade in school?

If yes this means the soccer gods that pushed for changing from SY to BY did it because of grade in school.

If they made the decision to switch from BY to SY because of grade in school wouldn't it also make sense to implement a rule that younger players than the eligibility window must play on the team thats their grade in school?

No, because that's partial GY. And because kids decide on when to go to school for a host of other factors other than sports. There are certain advantages to better align to grade but there's always going to be outliers that don't fit that mold and any system needs flexibility to deal with them. And they've communicated that ALL along. That's why it's play up when ability drives the decision.

Once you understand that this person wants GY all of their argueing makes much more sense.
Can you offer proof that this person wants GY? Otherwise, your comment is invalid.

They clearly do not argue for GY. Constantly accusing people of wanting GY when you have not found anyone other than yourself wanting GY makes no sense.

No, they specialty said grade doesn't matter in an FAQ.

is this thr section youre referring to?

Aligning with the school-year calendar is a return to a policy in place prior to a 2016 U.S. Soccer decision to move to birth-year registration (January 1 – December 31). The change was made in effort to align with international soccer standards.

No i think this was the section...

U.S. Soccer performed an assessment of available data (e.g., 2020 U.S. Census & National Center for Education Statistics) and qualitative feedback and determined that September 1 represents most school districts’ calendars (~68%) across the country.
From the FAQ posted 2 weeks ago, "Is registration based on your grade in school?

A: No it is still based on your date of birth to determine the age group you will play. A child held back a year in school, will not be impacted."

That sounds 100% like older players held back in school are being allowed to play down a grade.

Clubs will not do this. It's naive, wishful thinking (or just dumb and ill-informed, you pick). Clubs will play to win and put players on whatever team gives the club the best chance of winning. They don't care if the kid is older or younger or whatever, they want to win to show (or create the illusion) that they are developing players, the best place to play with the best teams and best players, etc. Clubs won't give 2 cents about what parents say or complain about if a player allows them to win more games.

Well this goes along with the rumor ECNL is breaking up the age groups for cups and showcases less age groups at each event means you can fit more teams for U16 and up.
