Fed Government Shutdown 2025: non-political thread

Anonymous
Welp just saw my paycheck. Since I’m 4/10’s it was only for 50 hours. I didn’t get paid for the furloughed hours and they didn’t pay the four hour shutdown pay. But 100% of my deductions came out. My net was under $700. Winning!

This shutdown made me realize that I've been running on fumes for months.

Same. I’m still decompressing. It’s been such a rough year.

My personal life has been in the dumpster since RTO and I am still catching up on house projects, house cleaning and errands. I haven’t had any spare time this year.

Same. It’s been nice minus that we’ll likely miss a paycheck, but the time is invaluable. Definitely focusing on self care right now.

I think this is the reason they want to drag this out. Terrify us and get more attrition.

A week into this Trump/Johnson shutdown, I realize that I did not realize how exhausted I am. Mentally. Physically. Not looking for sympathy.
Truly saddened by the assault on our democratic system of governance, imperfect as it is, and the enormity of the resulting harm.

I am too. I am angry at the left because their extreme policies have led the country to vote for Trump.

This is what happens when the left took the country too far left, where merely referring to another person by the wrong pronoun would be treated as a violent assault.

But that never happened. It's like being angry at your spouse because you dreamed about them cheating - it's entirely in your head.

That isn't entirely true. There was a push for compelled speech that started in 2020 with BLM and was being further extended with the expectation of using correct pronouns

https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/514251-how-silence-is-violence-threatens-true-free-speech-and-public-civility/

This opinion piece isn’t about pronouns in email signatures. I’ve never put my pronouns in my email signature and it was never an issue. I’ve never heard any complaints about pronouns and email signatures until Trump issued a mandate about email signatures.

https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/federal-employees-told-remove-pronouns-email-signatures-end/story?id=118310483

I guess concerns about free speech stopped in January.

My agency pressured employees to include their pronouns in email signatures. I included my pronouns because I was afraid about the potential consequences for not complying. We were also required to use gender neutral language and attend countless trainings to “educate” us about gender, equity, and other woke concepts. I complied, but I took a stand at the ballot box and voted for Trump. While I’m not entirely fond of Trump’s policies, I prefer him over the alternative.

Name the agency please! This should be public knowledge, my agency never put any pressure on employees to do this. Some had pronouns in their signatures, others didn’t. It’s literally never come up as an issue.

Same! Name the Agency; you are anonymous, so you won’t be outing yourself. We were never pressured to use pronouns. The only mandatory “woke” training we had was No Fear, which gave guidance about how to avoid discriminating against people’s religion, gender, age, etc.

You’ll get the pay after it’s over, regardless of the baseless threats from the radical far right. You were never going to be paid while furloughed, but that’s a whole different issue.

WSJ: “White House Says Government Layoffs Have Begun: OMB chief Vought makes announcement as shutdown continues ”. No details on which agencies yet (or anything else), so let’s see.

Whatever. If they think any of this has shock value anymore they need to rethink. DOGE is already a widely acknowledged failure if not laughing stock so Vought can continue acting like Temu Voldemort. We don’t care.

When does the house return? Senate on Tuesday but even if they pass something house still needs to be involved bc bills are different right?

Bring it. I have no F's left.

Quick question - are most line attorneys in the Department of Justice being furloughed? I have a younger relative who works for DOJ (not an appointee) and, while we don't see each other often, I'd probably check in on him if they aren't getting paid to see how they're doing.

Yep.

The staffing firms have noticed too, I've been getting a few recruiting messages on LinkedIn this week.

Haven’t had a chance to validate this but I heard that the House isn’t coming back next week. Talk about people being paid to not work.
