Reminder: DCUM cheered when Tucker Carlson was fired.

Was is because of Biden’s hurt feelings?

Speaking of old Tucker, though, even he seems pretty freaked out by the government attack on free speech.

Of course you did 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I love when people think this actually matters.

It’s hurt Target. They fired the CEO. WaPo lost several hundred thousand subscribers. You don’t think that hurts?

Just because you don’t want to join a protest or boycott doesn’t mean they’re not effective.

Just googled fif my edification….

The Washington Post Is Running Out Of Readers Willing To Pay.
“I could hardly believe it when I saw The Washington Post’s new average daily paid circulation figure that made the rounds in recent days — a number so low that I first thought it must surely be missing a digit.

97,000.

That figure comes via the Alliance for Audited Media, and it reveals that The Washington Post’s average paid daily circulation has dropped below 100,000 for the first time in 55 years. To put that in perspective: 97,000 is the sort of figure you’d expect to see from a mid-size regional paper like The Minnesota Star Tribune or The Seattle Times. Not from a globally recognized newsroom with multiple Pulitzers to its name.”

Keep up the great work protestors! 👏👏👏

Killing the WaPo will make things worse, not better. People who canceled are being very foolish.

Disagree 100%. They are as biased as the NYT. Follow Apple News (which has a ton of newspapers/media) or independent media. Sign up for 1440 19th Street news. So many independent journalists are on IG for free and have paid Substacks.

I don't need billionaires to think for me.

Apple News is garbage.

Many of the independent “journalists” either (a) don’t adhere to basic journalistic standards, (b) don’t have sufficient staff/resources to cover the issues, and/or (c) don’t have editorial staff/structures in place to ensure proper coverage.

You’re recommending apples when we really need oranges.

That's right Jim Acosta and Katie Couric no longer adhere to journalistic standards. That's your right to hate Apple News but they literally license news from tons of newspapers...so you don't have to pay for them all.

Look, I think newspapers should be free, but we live in a capitalistic society, so the only news that would be free would be propaganda. Look at the Wapo stats I posted. Is that independent now that they don't have enough subscribers to generate the revenue they need to keep it afloat? That means that Bezos is putting his $$ in to keep it afloat. I don't really consider that independent news with high journalistic standards.

I don’t hate Apple News. I just don’t think it’s very good. And Jim Acosta and Katie Couric are not exactly compelling examples to the contrary. Not to mention the algorithm.

As for your second point, check out WaPo’s ethics and standards page. Or, if that’s not sufficient for you, check out the website right now and ask yourself a question: how many of those articles does Bezos likely agree with?

My answer is very few. Which rather proves the point.

That proves nothing if the damage is done. I can't check it out because I don't have a subscription and I don't care to because I can read tons of other papers on Apple News. We disagree, it's fine. Because I definitely don't think Bezos is more principled than Couric and Acosta.

I'm ^^ back after checking WaPo's headlines versus WSJ on their front page online and the latter is much more balanced toward Dems than the former. Be sure to look at the subheadings.

He was lying on a “news” program about stolen election and Hunter Biden’s 10 laptops. Fox got sued and as part of the settlement he was fired. You are just so far down the right wing rabbit hole you can not see the difference?

Why are you allowed to post here? Surely under the new laws of speech policing that you support, you should not be allowed to post.

And why was he fired? Government coersion? No? Then not the same thing.

False equivalence.

Maybe this was the straw that broke the camels back. Bad ratings, expensive and a big merger in flight.

Companies exist to make money first and foremost- anything that gets in the way of that is collateral damage.

What truly free press can we switch our payments? Democracy doesn't win if no media is left standing to shine a light on reality. Where is the good, ethical journalism these days?
